Reget's Four-Goal Night Leads Tropics to Game One Playoff Win against St. Louis Ambush

LAKELAND, Fla. - A former St. Louis Ambush star came back to haunt his old team Friday night and as a result, the Florida Tropics have a one-game lead in their Major Arena Soccer League quarterfinal playoff series.

Zach Reget, who was the MASL Rookie of the Year in 2018-19 but was traded to the Tropics after that season, scored four goals to lift Florida to a xx-xx win over St. Louis in St. Louis.

Game two of the series is Sunday afternoon at the RP Funding Center in Lakeland. The Tropics can advance to the MASL semi-finals with a win. If the Ambush win game two, the team's will play a 15-minute mini-game at the conclusion of game two, with the winner advancing.

The Tropics led 3-2 at intermission on goals by Ricardo Carvalho, Victor Parreiras and Reget's first. Reget added two more goals in the third, and his final one just over four minutes into the final period to put the Tropics up 6-2. Ricardo Diegues added the final two goals in the fourth quarter. Parreiras added three assists for a four-point night.

Three of Florida's goals came on the power play. Reget is now tied for the team lead in goals with Victor Parreiras with 30 each. Reget shares the Tropics record for goals in a game with five, a mark he hit in March, 2020, also against St. Louis. Diegues had five goals in a game in 2019.

Sunday's game will mark the first time the Tropics will have ever hosted a playoff game, despite posting a league best 48-6 record over the last three years. Two seasons ago, with the Tropics sporting an 18-3 record, the remaining portion of the regular season and playoffs were canceled because of the Covid-19 outbreak. Last year, the MASL held its opening round of playoffs in a neutral site - Kansas City - where the Tropics dropped both games, one in overtime, to the eventual champion San Diego Sockers. Florida did not qualify for the post-season in its first three years.

Sunday's game will be the 21st against St. Louis in Florida history, representing the team the Tropics have faced more than any other in franchise history. The Tropics are 9-2 all-time against St. Louis in Lakeland.

This will be the 20th and 21st games in team history against St. Louis, representing the team Florida has faced more than any other in its history. The Tropics are 12-7 overall, including 9-2 at the RP Funding Center but just 3-5 in St. Louis.

Florida comes in as the No. 2 overall seed in the playoffs following an 18-3-2 regular season, while St. Louis is the No. 7 overall seed following their 10-12-2 campaign.
