Waikiki BeachBoys News Release
Cincinnati Reds prospects Yonder Alonso and Todd Frazier each posted three hits as Waikiki went on to pound out 12 base knocks in a 10-3 win over North Shore tonight at Les Murakami Stadium.
Alonso, the No. 7 overall selection by the Reds in the 2008 First-Year Player Draft, drove in two and notched two doubles while Frazier doubled, tripled and drove in a game-high three runs as the BeachBoys posted their third straight victory.
Buster Posey continued to swing a hot bat for Waikiki, and plated Johan Limonta with a double off the right-center field wall in the third inning. Alonso, the ensuing batter, ripped a double of his own to score Posey, and put the BeachBoys up 2-0.
The Honu (8-13) narrowed the deficit to 2-1 in the home half of the third inning thanks to Kyu Hyun Moon's leadoff triple followed by Ronald Rivas' RBI ground-rule double to center field.
But Waikiki (10-11) answered in the fourth frame with four innings after sending all nine batters to the plate. Limonta, of the Seattle Mariners, hit his first home run of the season, a two-run blast over the right field wall, while Alonso added his second RBI double of the game as the BeachBoys took a 6-1 advantage.
Marquez Smith added a solo home run to left-center field in the fifth frame to put Waikiki up by six, and squash any hopes of a Honu comeback.
Moon finished the game with a triple and a double, while teammates Jordan Parraz and Ronald Rivas chipped in two hits apiece in the losing effort.
Waikiki starter Jeremy Bleich of the New York Yankees improved to 2-1 on the season after tossing seven innings through which he struck out eight and allowed two runs on five hits.
Jun Hyeok Heo (0-3) took the loss for North Shore, surrendering three earned runs on six hits through 3 1/3 innings.
The two teams return to Murakami Stadium tomorrow at 7 p.m. for the second of a three-game series.
