Charlotte County Redfish News Release
PORT CHARLOTTE, FL- The Charlotte County Redfish can't seem to find the right combination of hitting and pitching to put together a win. The Redfish put up six runs on nine hits, but it wasn't enough as the Bradenton Juice won the second game of the "Sunshine Series", presented by Fairchild Roofing, 10-6.
In a game that saw four lead changes and two ties, there was no shortage of scoring in this twenty hit affair. Luke Barganier, the Bradenton Juice centerfielder roped a one out single and stole a base. Eddie Kim hit an RBI double and the Juice took a 1-0 lead. Reynaldo Correal, the Redfish starter, settled down striking out Mikela Olsen and getting Brenan Herrera to ground out to Jose Gutierrez, the Redfish shortstop, to end the first inning.
In the second inning, the Redfish showed great promise and it seemed as though the losing streak was drawing to an close. Anthony Sandstrom, Redfish second baseman, reached on E6, Jeremy McCann walked and Brian Jarosinski singled to load the bases for Correal. Correal helped his own cause by lacing a two RBI double and the Redfish took a 2-1 lead. They would add another run later in the inning and held a 3-1 lead.
After a scoreless third, the Juice scored two more on a RBI single off the bat of Julius Thames and the game was tied a 3-3. That was the end of the night for Correal, who allowed three run, four hits, and three walks and struck out three in three and two-third innings. David Lipson entered the game out of the Redfish bullpen and picked off Thames straying too far off first to end the inning.
The Juice took the lead in the sixth inning scoring two runs on hits. Noah Peery, the Bradenton right-fielder, slapped an RBI triple to right that scored Olsen all the way from first base. After a Josh Neal double, pinch-hitter Jean Castro walked to load the bases. The next play was a scary one and had everyone in Charlotte Sports Park holding their breath. Thames grounded to the first baseman McCann, whose threw home to try and cut down the runner Peery. William Plaza, who replaced Corece Lee at catcher in the fourth, was laid out on the play at the plate by the 6'1", 205 lbs Peery. The hit jarred the ball loose and knocked Plaza out of the game. He was transported to a local hospital for evaluation. He was released later this evening with a mild concussion.
"Baseball is a tough game and that was hard hit at home plate," commented Redfish General Manager, Steven Tricarico. "Thankfully William is doing well and our trainers will monitor him as his situation improves."
The Redfish tied the game in the bottom of the inning but it didn't last long as Lipson surrendered a two run, two out homerun to Herrera in the top of the seventh. The Juice added three more runs and the Redfish hopes for their first win of the season were vanquished.
The Redfish look to break out their early season funk as they square off against the Bradenton Juice in the finale of the first leg of the "Sunshine Series" tomorrow night, May 23rd. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM. All Redfish games can be heard on 1070 AM WKII. Tomorrow night is Victory Junction Night Presented by Wal-Mart and Charlotte Motor Sports Park and it's also "Guaranteed Win Wednesday". For more information, check out www.redfishbaseball.com.
