Charlotte County Redfish News Release
PORT CHARLOTTE, FL- The Redfish have finally arrived in the state of Florida. After a tough start to the season and especially at the Charlotte Sports Park, the Redfish finally notched a "road" victory, but victory nonetheless, as they blew away the Bradenton Juice 7-4.
Daniel Chaffardet (1-2) took the hill for the Redfish and showed the fans in attendance at the Charlotte Sports Park why the Redfish are not a team to be taken lightly. After striking out the the side in the first inning, Chaffardet gave his shortstop, Jose Gutierrez some infield practice, as he got the Juice to ground out three in a row in the second. Chaffardet added another one-two-three inning in the fifth as he pitched seven innings with five Ks, two walks, and only allowed one run off four hits.
The Redfish hitters followed Chaffardet's lead as they pounded Juice starter Rocky Collis (1-1). The second inning was where it all started for the Redfish on this gloomy, smoke-filled night at the Charlotte Sports Park. Jeremy McCann drew a one-out walk followed by an Anthony Sandstrom single. William Plaza, playing in his third game back after suffering a concussion, roped a single to left and the bases were loaded. Jose Garcia, making his third appearance for the Redfish in Charlotte Sports Park, grounded into a double play but got an RBI as McCann came in to score the first run of the game. Chaffardet then helped his own cause as he hit an RBI single almost to the exact same spot as Plaza's. Sam Martinez, the Redfish left fielder, continued the hitting barrage with and single and Gutierrez showed off his bat driving in Chaffardet with an RBI single.
In the first three innings, Collis was no match for the Redfish bats as he gave up four runs on eight hits. The night wouldn't get easier as the Redfish continued to pound Collis as they added a run in the fifth and two in the sixth and that was all the pitching staff needed. Collis was lit up for seven runs on thirteen hits in six innings of work.
The Redfish bullpen entered the game and helped Chaffardet earn his first victory of the season. Justin Wichert, Brandon Camardese and Ricardo Gomez combined to throw three innings of work only surrendering three runs on two hits. They walked and struck out three Juice hitters. Charlotte County got to see their hometown team live up to the guarantee they make every Wednesday.
The Redfish take to the road, still beaming after this victory, to take on the Aiken Foxhounds for a three game series starting tonight. First pitch is set for 7:05 PM.
