Charlotte County Redfish News Release
PORT CHARLOTTE, FL- Something happened on the way to Georgia. After tropical storm Barry washed out their game against the Aiken Foxhounds, the Redfish headed into Macon to take on the Music. There was a different brand of baseball played by the Redfish as grabbed their third victory of the season and third on the road, this time by the score of 6-2.
The Redfish only needed three batters to come to plate before they scored their first run. Sam Martinez led-off with a single to center and Ramon Downing roped a RBI double and to give the Redfish a 1-0 lead. Macon would tie the game as Eric Renfroe, Music right fielder, singled and came around to score when Scott Robinson, Music first baseman, hit into a fielder's choice. The game would remain tied until the top of the third when Redfish shortstop Jose Gutierrez homered to left centerfield. Again, the Music would come back to tie the game as KJ Hendricks doubled down the right-field line and scored after Carlos Arroyo, Music left-fielder grounded into a 6-4-3 double play. With that, the Music went silent for the rest of the night, thanks to great starting pitching by Javier Fiallo (1-0).
Fiallo, who joined the Redfish on May 29th, pitched three scoreless innings of the six innings he worked on the night. He allowed only two runs on five hits, striking out three and walking three. Fiallo would assure himself the victory as he and Redfish took the lead as they employed some small ball. Anthony Sandstrom doubled to center and advanced to third on a William Plaza ground out and Brian Jarosinski walked. With runners on the corners, Fiallo dropped down a perfect sacrifice squeeze bunt and gave the Redfish a 4-3 lead. David Seccombe (1-1), the Music starting pitcher, was knocked from the game and the Redfish would force the Music to use three relievers, two in the seventh inning alone. The Redfish would pad their lead in the seventh as Sam Martinez walked and stole second. Gutierrez reached on a fielder's choice and Ramon Downing drove in Martinez as he laced a double to centerfield.
With another run across in the eighth and ninth, the Redfish would give the game to their bullpen who didn't disappoint. Ricardo Gomez, who entered in the bottom of the seventh, was seeing double as he struck the first batter he faced in each of his two innings, got the second hitter to fly out to right-field and got the final hitter to ground out. Aristedes Almenar, the Redfish closer, was a little rocky as the Music loaded the bases with no one out. He settled down getting Music third basemen, Mike DeVeaux, to ground into fielder's choice, struck out pinch-hitter Nick Utley, and got Lafayette Brown to pop-out to Sandstrom to end the game.
The Redfish will look to make it two in a row against the Music tomorrow night, June 4th. First pitch is set for 7:05 PM. All Redfish games can be heard on 1070 AM WKII and online at www.redfishbaseball.com. For more information, check out www.redfishbaseball.com. Charlotte County Redfish Baseball - Reel in the Fun!
