Charlotte County Redfish News Release
PORT CHARLOTTE, FL- The Charlotte County Redfish have been eagerly awaiting and preparing for Opening Day, which is only 4 days away and also getting out into the community. This past weekend, the Redfish were out helping the community and giving fans of all ages a glimpse of the fun to come this Inaugural season.
The Redfish is an organization that believes in giving back to the community and especially one that is excited to support them. On Saturday morning, the Redfish and their soon to be named mascot were spotted at the Florida Blood Center in Charlotte Harbor helping them to kickoff their Pledge Red campaign. Joining the mascot were Redfish players Andrew Lane, Daniel Chaffardet, and Jake Baker, who were signing autographs, handing out pocket schedules and inviting kids to come out the Kids Club Party later that day. Lane even donated blood.
The Pledge Red Campaign, which is a combined effort of the Florida Blood Centers and the American Red Cross, aims to get more people to donated blood. When people stopped in and donate blood at the Florida Blood Center, they received a free general admission ticket to "Pledge Red Night" at Charlotte County Stadium on May 20th. Fans who come out to the game and donate blood will receive $1 off regular priced admission.
"Florida Blood Centers are saving lives every day and donating just a pint of blood can save as many as three lives," commented David Greenwald, Director of Broadcasting/Media Relations. "We look forward to seeing these great people at the stadium on May 20th and hope fans come out to not only to see great baseball action but to help out a great cause."
The Redfish continued their day with the Inaugural Kids Club Pizza Party. About 1,500 kids and parents were present for the fun-filled afternoon where kids club members picked up their official Redfish Kids Club t-shirt and membership card. Redfish fans of all ages dined on free Cici's Pizza and cooled off with Snowie Sno Cones while sitting at Redfish baseball picnic tables. Fans inside the Vallacare Kids Zone were able to play on the playground, take a swing at the inflatable t-ball hit and get autographs from the Redfish mascot. Redfish fans were also treated to a scrimmage of their Redfish against in-state rival, the Bradenton Juice. They will scrimmage against the Juice on Monday May 14th at 4pm.
KIX Country 92.9 morning show co-host Todd Matthews along with Redfish Director of Broadcasting/Media Relations David Greenwald announced the name of the Redfish mascot live on the air. After careful tabulation of the votes, the Redfish introduced "Sinker" to Charlotte County and the South Coast League.
"For our team name and mascot name, we reached out the community and in both cases, the community got it right," said Steven Tricarico, General Manager. "The Kids Club is an important part of Redfish baseball and they will play a big role at every Redfish home game."
The Redfish are days away from their Opening Day May 18th with the South Georgia Peanuts. First pitch is scheduled at 7:05pm with plenty of exciting Opening Day Ceremonies! For more information, check out www.redfishbaseball.com. Charlotte County Redfish Baseball - Reel in the Fun!
