Rochester Red Wings News Release
Looking to win four-straight Saturday evening and take the series, the Rochester Red Wings (22-16, 67-44) moved to a season-high 23 games over .500 and are now just two games back of the Scranton/WB Railriders (23-13, 60-50) in the International League second half with a 9-0 shutout victory. The Red Wings offense exploded for four home runs for the second-straight night and third time in their last four games, while notching three other extra-base hits for a total of seven. On the mound, seven different Rochester arms combined to hold Scranton/WB scoreless on seven hits.
Things continued to roll for the Red Wings as SS Seaver King launched his sixth home run of the season and the 11th of the series for Rochester, a 403-foot blast with an exit velocity of 102.8 mph, giving Rochester an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first.
After a scoreless second, Rochester continued its offensive assault as RF Leandro Pineda doubled in the third. Seaver King then drew a walk before 3B Phillip Glasser smashed his first triple of the season, bringing home Pineda and King to extend Rochester's lead to 3-0.
After a flyout opened the Rochester fourth, 2B Cayden Wallace singled to right. Then, C Maxwell Romero Jr. hit a single of his own before Leandro Pineda hit a sacrifice fly that brought in Wallace to make it 4-0 Rochester.
With two outs in the Rochester fifth, LF Trey Lipscomb doubled. DH Riley Adams reached first after being hit by a pitch before CF Sam Petersen singled, bringing in Lipscomb and moving Adams to third as Rochester extended its lead to 5-0.
After a strikeout opened the sixth for the Red Wings, Leandro Pineda launched his third Triple-A home run, Rochester's 12th of the series, extending the lead to 6-0. Seaver King followed with a single before 1B Yohandys Morales hit his 23rd home run of the season, Rochester's 13th against the RailRiders, giving the Red Wings an 8-0 lead.
After being held scoreless in the seventh and eighth, Trey Lipscomb launched the 14th Red Wings home run of the series and his 20th of the season, extending Rochester's lead to 9-0 in the ninth.
Despite having a runner on first, the RailRiders could not solve Rochester's pitching, as they were shut out in the ninth.
RHP Cole Henry got the start for Rochester, pitching 1.0 inning with two strikeouts and one hit while picking off the runner he allowed. LHP Erik Tolman relieved Henry, pitching 1.0 inning with two groundouts and a flyout. LHP Matt Krook took over for Tolman, pitching 1.0 inning with two strikeouts and two hits allowed. RHP Connor Van Scoyoc entered in relief of Krook, pitching 2.0 innings with two strikeouts and two hits allowed. RHP Kyle Nicolas entered after Van Scoyoc, pitching 1.0 inning with one hit and two strikeouts. RHP Eddy Yean came on for Nicholas, pitching 2.0 innings with one walk, two strikeouts, and one hit allowed. RHP Justin Lawrence followed Yean, pitching 1.0 inning with two strikeouts.
The Rochester Red Wings Player of the Game today is RF Leandro Pineda. The Venezuelan outfielder finished the night 2-for-3 with a homer and a double, while adding a pair of RBI and runs scored each. After homering Friday night, this is the first time he has gone deep in back-to-back games since May 18 & 19 in 2024.
Rochester will play the final game of the series against the RailRiders Sunday at 1:35 p.m., as they look to win five in a row. RHP Brenden Beck is expected to start for the RailRiders for the second time this week.
