Red Riders Looking For Center

December 28, 2009 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
New York Express News Release

Elmira, NY. The New York Red Riders, during their first year debut in the ABA, are holding open tryouts for a strong center to replace the loss of two players. Chemung County YMCA Executive Director Rich Micelotta announced today the loss of centers Yaniff Ducreay and Raphael Madera for personal reasons.

"To play for us takes a commitment on and off the court to include practices, involvement in the community, supporting YMCA youth programs and playing basketball," stated Micelotta. "These players could not make that commitment and we wish them well.

The team is a program of the Chemung County YMCA in Elmira, NY.

Coach Tracy Long will be accepting calls to schedule practice tryouts immediately for the position of center. Requirements include a height of at least 6'10", in good physical condition, college or pro experience in the 5-position (center), ability to move or live near the Elmira NY area to make the team game/practice, appearance commitments. "We have a team with speed and excellent field shooting; we are looking for a player to take control in the center for rebounds on defense and help our close game on offense,:" Long stated.

Eligible candidates will have to tryout in front of the front office and coaching staff as well as some of the players. Candidates will not be eligible to play without at least one-week of practice with the team, said Micelotta. "That is why it is so important that we schedule tryouts with interested players as soon as possible."

The Red Riders have completed nearly the first third of a 30-game season with a record of 2 wins and 5 losses. Their next home game will be Jan 2 against the NJ Express at 7pm and Jan 3 against the Tri City Suns at 3pm at the Chemung County YMCA at 425 Pennsylvania Avenue, Elmira NY. After these New Year weekend games, they will go on a three game road trip planned for the following weekend to Washington DC, New Jersey and Cleveland. Contact Tracy Long or Rich Micelotta at 607 733 7656 or email ymcaprogram@stny.rr.com to arrange for a tryout. Or visit www.abalive.com.
