Record-Setters Booker And Woods Earn United Football League Player Of The Week Honors

November 2, 2010 - United Football League (UFL 1) News Release

JACKSONVILLE, FL - Tuesday, November 2, 2010 - A pair of United Football League record-breakers - Hartford Colonials running back LORENZO BOOKER and Sacramento Mountain Lions return specialist AARON WOODS - have earned UFL Week 7 Player of the Week honors, along with Las Vegas Locomotives cornerback KEVIN HOBBS.

The performances of each award winner ensured their teams remain in contention for a Championship Game berth as the UFL season heads into Week 8 with a playoff mentality and extra buzz around the upcoming games. Every game is now critical to a team's title aspirations - a win can go a long way to advancing, but a loss could be devastating, even fatal. While there are no playoffs before the UFL grand finale, these final six regular season games sure have a playoff feel about them.

United Football League Players of Week 7

Offense - Lorenzo Booker, RB, Hartford Colonials

Defense - Kevin Hobbs, CB, Las Vegas Locomotives

Special Teams - Aaron Woods, RS, Sacramento Mountain Lions

Booker broke the UFL single-game rushing record in the Colonials' 27-26 win Saturday night at the Sacramento Mountain Lions, running for 147 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries. The previous record was 139 yards by Las Vegas rusher DeDe Dorsey, set exactly one year to the day before Booker had his signature UFL performance.

In six games for Hartford this fall, Booker has proved to be one of the most explosive players in the UFL. He has recorded 395 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown on 68 carries (5.8-yard average) to go with 19 catches for 221 yards and a UFL-record-long 80-yard touchdown catch in Week 1. Booker has had his best three games of 2010 in the last three Hartford contests, running for 295 yards and a touchdown on 49 carries (6.0-yard average).

On Saturday night, Woods became the first player in UFL history to return a punt for touchdown when he went 60 yards for the score on a late first quarter return. In addition to his only punt return of the game, Woods also returned four kickoffs for 107 yards, giving the diminutive 5-foot-6 return specialist 167 yards on just five touches.

"I thought I was going to get hit, but I said just catch the ball, because if I catch the ball and they hit me, it won't hurt that bad," explained Woods. "I was lucky that we had great blocks that gave me the opportunity to score."

In six games this season, Woods has gained 148 yards and a touchdown on 12 punt returns (12.3-yard average) and 547 yards on 25 kickoff returns (21.9-yard average).

Hobbs joined the Locos on October 10, and has made an immediate impact as a backup cornerback. Thursday night in a Las Vegas 24-10 victory in Omaha against the Nighthawks, Hobbs posted an interception, three pass breakups and three total tackles. In his first three UFL contests, Hobbs has recorded six total tackles, a half-tackle for a loss, an interception and four pass breakups.
