Rebels Sweep the Knights for the Third Time this Season

Over the weekend, the Rebels visited the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights in Pittston, PA. The team have not lost to the Knights yet this season. Wilkes-Barre had their five-game win streak snapped prior to this past weekend when they lost to the Generals 6-3. The Knights came into the weekend holding a playoff spot as they were in fourth place (11-16-1) in the East Division. The Rebels on the other hand are in second place (15-9-2-1) in the division and top ten in the league.
On Friday, there was a goal scored each period resulting in a 2-1 final. It started off in favor of the good guys with Alex Roy recording his second goal of the season after he scored on the power play. The Rebels went into the locker room after the first with a 1-0 lead. Almost seven minutes into the middle period, the Knights answered back with one of their own power-play goals, as they had a 5-on-3 man-advantage. The Rebels knew they had to come out aggressive once the puck was dropped to start the third and they did exactly that. Alex Frye scored just 3:32 into the period giving the Rebels the lead once again. The score would remain 2-1 Rebels when the horn sounded, giving them their fifth straight win over the Knights and the opportunity to sweep them for a third time the next day. Ryan Keane played phenomenal between the pipes, stopping 28 shots and recording his fifth-straight win. As for his counterpart Samuel Vyletelka, he is still searching for his first win in net (0-9).
The following day these two teams met for a matinee game. The Rebels started Keane again, as for the Knights they decided to go with the UMD commit Zach Stejskal (11-8-1). The Knights came out strong once the puck was dropped by scoring the first goal and giving them their first lead of the weekend. The score would remain 1-0 Knights until there was under a minute to go in the second period. Jake Felker redirected the puck in front and it went right past Stejskal, the score was tied 1-1 after 40 minutes of play. The third period was very back and forth as neither team could gain an edge. With 16:04 gone in the final period of regulation, Jim Glynn finally broke the tie to give the Rebels their first lead of the game. Also, with Glynn scoring he now has the longest point-streak this season at 10 and is one game away from tying the franchise record set by Ben Greiner back in 2013-2014 as a member of the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees. Greiner accumulated 14 points during his 11-game point streak, Glynn is currently sitting at 13.
With time winding down and their hopes of beating Jamestown for the first time this season fading, the Knights pulled Stejskal to give them an extra attacker. It would not pay off for them though as Alex Frye scored on the empty net giving the Rebels a 3-1 victory. The Knights are the only team in the East to have not beaten Jamestown. With the sweep, Keane is now on a six-game win streak and currently sits fifth in the league for GAA with a 1.89. Also, the Rebels are currently on a 10-game road point streak which started back on October 19th, making it the second longest in the league.
The Rebels are back on a winning streak and only have the Black Bears in their path before everyone can go home for the Holidays. This Friday marks the half-way point of the season for the Rebels and with a record of 17-9-2-1 (37PTS) they are sitting comfortable in second place. The Black Bears are coming to Jamestown with an overall record of 10-16-3-2 (25PTS) putting them in fourth place. The last time the Black Bears came to Jamestown it did not end well for them as they got swept and set two records for the Rebels this season. The first one was the most goals the Rebels have scored in a game after they won 7-1. The very next day they hit another milestone as Noah West recorded the team's first shutout of the season by a final of 4-0. With Christmas right around the corner, the Rebels hope to deliver two gifts to the Black Bears this weekend in the form of losses.would not pay off for them though as Alex Frye scored on the empty net giving the Rebels a 3-1 victory.
