
Rebellion Signs NPF Veteran Bianca Mejia

Washington, PA-The Pennsylvania Rebellion is pleased to announce the addition of 2011 National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) Defensive Player of the Year Bianca Mejia to their 2014 roster. Mejia's signing is the fourth of the offseason for the Rebellion who will be entering their inaugural season of competition in the NPF.
Signing as a free agent out of Sylmar, California back in 2011 with the Carolina Diamonds, Mejia has played in the NPF for three years.ÃÂ
"I could not be more excited to bring leadership to the Rebellion and take a couple of the young players who are new to the league under my wing," Mejia said. "I've been playing softball since I was 12 years old and have a strong passion and respect for the game. I look forward to having a great competitive season with the Rebellion and another chance to compete at the highest level against the best players in the world."
With the Comets in 2013, she batted .260 and led New York/New Jersey with six home runs and 22 RBI. Defensively, Mejia turned seven double plays in 44 games for the Comets.ÃÂ At the conclusion of her rookie season with the Diamonds in 2011, the shortstop was awarded the league's Wilson Defensive Player of the Year after compiling a .961 fielding percentage and finishing fourth in the league with six home runs.ÃÂ
"Bianca's not only a great person but a great player and brings all the needed experience that we need to our new team to help move the team forward and bring all the players together," Rebellion manager Rick Bertagnolli said."Bianca is well respected throughout the NPF and we are certainly proud to have her as part of our infield this season."
Mejia transferred to Long Island University after two seasons at Michigan State. As a member of the LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds, Mejia is LIU's all-time homerun leader (30) and was named the 2010 Northeast Conference Player of the Year. Her other personal accomplishments during her collegiate career include Third Team NFCA Louisville Slugger All-America and Easton All-America Second Team honors in 2009 and NFCA Louisville Slugger All-Region First Team and All-ECAC First Team recognition twice.
Mejia was chosen to represent Team USA at the 2007 ISF Junior Women's Fastpitch World Championships in the Netherlands where they captured the gold medal.
