Pennsylvania Rebellion News Release
Washington, PA-With the first overall pick in the 2014 National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) Draft, the Pennsylvania Rebellion, selected senior Dallas Escobedo from Arizona State University.
Escobedo becomes the third player from Arizona State's softball program in the last six years to be drafted first overall by a team in the NPF since Kaitlin Cochran (2009) and Katie Burkhart (2008).
In 2014, the former three time USA Softball National Collegiate Player of the Week and multiple Pac-12 award winner has accumulated a 14-5 record with a 1.73 ERA in 129 2/3 innings of work. Escobedo has tallied 205 strikeouts in 20 starts this season and has held her competition to a .159 opponents' batting average.
Following a recent start in the circle against #4 Michigan on March 11th, Escobedo fanned nine Wolverines and left her mark in the Sun Devil record books as she collected her 1,000th career strikeout, becoming just the second pitcher in program history and 14th player in the Pac-12 Conference to reach the milestone.
"We feel in Dallas we have a player who has excelled at her position and shown leadership and maturity on and off the field, "Stuart Williams, owner of the PA Rebellion said. "We believe Dallas will make us better in the short term - an immediate impact player - and in the long term. She is the type of individual who will help us build a strong franchise."
As a junior, the Glendale, Arizona native, surpassed her personal career best in single-game strikeouts with 19 against Portland State and tossed a combined no-hitter against Boise State. During postseason play, she threw ASU's first postseason no-hitter against San Jose State and posted a 0.00 ERA in 21 innings to start the NCAA Tournament.
Escobedo finished her sophomore campaign with a 24-8 record and compiled a 2.32 ERA in 211 innings pitched. The former Top 50 Watchlist for 2012 Player of the Year, threw her first-no hitter against Central Connecticut State and was named First Team Pac-12 All Conference, First Team NFCA All-West Region Second Team and earned Honorable Mention Pac-12 All-Academic.
The Pac-10 Freshman of the Year had an outstanding first season for the Sun Devils, helping the program win their second Women's College World Series Championship. After the conclusion of the WCWS, Escobedo was named the WCWS co-Most Outstanding Player. She finished her freshman season with a 37-3 record and 1.51 ERA. In 38 starts, she collected 326 strikeouts and allowed just 58 runs.
Additionally, Escobedo has won consecutive gold medals as a two-time member of the USA Softball Women's Junior Team.
The Rebellion will open their inaugural season at CONSOL Energy Park on June 5th against the reigning NPF Champions, USSSA Pride, at 7:05 p.m. Season tickets are on sale now. Call Brian King, Director of Ticket Sales, at 724-250-7412 or e-mail tickets@rebellionprosoftball.com.
