Pennsylvania Rebellion News Release
Washington, PA - July 22, 2014 - It was a hard fought battle for the Pennsylvania Rebellion, presented by The Coury Financial Group, but their two home runs were not enough, as they fell to the visiting the Akron Racers by a final score of 6-3. Lisa Norris earned the complete game victory for the Racers while Dallas Escobedo suffered the loss.
The Racers jumped ahead early in the top of the first inning when designated player Jessica Garcia knocked a single through the gap plating right fielder Ayumi Karino. The Rebellion regained control of the contest in the latter half of the inning when designated player Courtney Liddle sent a moon shot over the center field wall following a walk by shortstop Bianca Mejia. Liddle's fifth dinger of the season put the Rebellion ahead by a score of 2-1.
The Rebellion lead increased to two runs when first baseman Briana Hamilton smacked a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth. The 3-1 lead proved to be the Rebellion's largest of the night.
The Racers gained ground and eventually knotted the game at three in the top of the fifth inning when catcher Haley Outon capitalized on the Rebellion passed ball. An RBI single by shortstop Nerissa Meyers put the game at 3-3.
The Racers broke the game open in their final at bats, scoring three runs on two hits. Their first of the inning came when Karino scored on a Meyers single up the middle. A two-run single by center fielder Taylor Schlopy gave the Akron a 6-3 lead: a deficit that proved to be too difficult to master for the Rebellion, giving them their 24th loss of the season.
The Rebellion will take a brief respite on Wednesday but will return to CONSOL Energy Park for a six-game series against the Chicago Bandits beginning Thursday, July 24. First pitch for Thursday's match up is 7:05 p.m. For tickets and/or group packages, contact the CONSOL Energy Park Box Office at 724.250.9555.
