Pennsylvania Rebellion News Release
WASHINGTON, PA - May 31, 2015 - The Pennsylvania Rebellion found themselves in another double-dose of NPF action on Sunday, May 31 at CONSOL Energy Park. At the end of the night, the Rebellion suffered a 12-4 loss in game one to the Chicago Bandits and a heartbreaker of a 2-1 loss in game two against the Akron Racers.
The Chicago Bandits (3-0) jumped out to an early lead in the first contest of the day, scoring five runs in the first inning. A single and stolen base by Chicago's Brenna Moss set up the first scoring chance for the Bandits. A wild pitch from Bryana Walker would score the first run, followed by an RBI double by Brittany Cervantes. The Bandits increased their lead by three, walking in a run and scoring two from an RBI double by Emily Allard.
The Rebellion (1-4) scored two runs of their own in the bottom of the first with RBI's from first baseman Briana Hamilton and shortstop Whitney Arion. Chicago regained their five run lead in their next at bat making the score 7-2. After two more runs by the Bandits in the third, the two teams would trade runs in the sixth. A final run in the seventh knotted the score 12-4 in favor of the Bandits.
Game two would pit the Rebellion against the Akron Racers (1-1). The Racers threatened to take the lead early on in the second, but third baseman Lara Andrews showed off some heads up fielding with an impressive unassisted double play to save a run and end the inning. Center fielder Courtney Senas made a diving catch in the top of the third to prevent a run from scoring as well, continuing her defensive dominance in the outfield.
The Rebellion took the lead in the bottom of the third when catcher Mandy Ogle drove in Senas to give the Rebellion a 1-0 lead. The lead would stand until the Racer's Ashley Thomas would hit a solo home run to left field that would tie the game at 1-1 and force the first extra-innings game of the Rebellion's season.
A Haley Outon home run in the top of the eighth proved to be the deciding factor in game two, as PA was unable to overcome the extra-innings deficit.
