Pennsylvania Rebellion News Release
Salisbury, MD-The Pennsylvania Rebellion, presented by Coury Financial Group, earned their first win in franchise history as they defeated the USSSA Pride 3-2 on Saturday.
Although the Rebellion's offensive performances hoisted the team to the victory, it was Dallas Escobedo's near perfect performance that shined. The overall first-round draft pick earned the win for the Rebellion in her professional debut. Escobedo pitched a complete game with six shutout innings, allowing 9 hits while fanning five.
Pennsylvania was quick to support Escobedo's campaign in the second inning. Right fielder Brittney Lindley started the Rebellion off with a walk, only to be pushed to third off first baseman Courtney Liddle's single the next at bat. Center fielder Andie Varsho took to the batter's box next as she reached first base on a fielder's choice groundball. With the bases loaded, second baseman Lauren Lappin capitalized on the opportunity with an RBI single to centerfield giving the Rebellion a 1-0 advantage.
The Rebellion tacked on another run in the fourth inning. With two outs, third baseman Jenn Salling smacked a hard groundball up the middle of the diamond to score Lappin from second base making the score 2-0.
The score remained the same until the top of the seventh when the Rebellion upped the score once more. Salling singled to start the inning, while teammates Lindley and Bianca Mejia followed by reaching the bases on an error and fielder's choice. With the bases loaded once again, Salling broke for home on a pass ball to make the score 3-0.
USSSA closed the gap in the bottom of the seventh, but Escobedo was able to pop up three batters in a row for the final outs of the game.
The Rebellion returns to play on Monday against the Pride for their second series of the year. First pitch is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. at Joe Cannon Stadium, and all the action can be heard on the MSA Sports Network. The Rebellion return home Thursday, June 5th for their inaugural home opener at CONSOL Energy Park.
