Pennsylvania Rebellion News Release

Washington, PA. - August 8, 2015 - The Pennsylvania Rebellion opened a four-game series with the Akron Racers Friday night by picking things up where they left off on June 14 due to a postponed contest. PA was able to take the day against Akron, defeating the Racers 9-1 in game one and 4-3 in game two.

In game one, play was resumed from a June 14 rainout in the bottom of the third inning with Akron being regarded as the home team. Dagmar Bloeming took over the pitching duties for the Rebellion and after two walks and a bunt base hit that loaded the bases, Nerissa Myers hit an infield single to cut the Rebellion lead to 3-1.

Bloeming was able to get out of the jam from there with a strikeout, and fly out to center. The Rebellion retaliated with three runs of their own in the top of the fourth to give them a 6-1 lead.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Allyson Fournier came in relief for Bloeming, and was just as effective, only giving up one hit in the fifth and sixth. Cheyenne Cordes made a diving catch through the left field wall to take away a home run, which kept the score 6-1 in favor of the Rebellion.

In the top of the seventh inning, Mandy Ogle was able to reach base on an Akron error and Alisa Goler hit a one-out double to put runners on second and third. Kristyn Sandberg then hit a home run that cleared the left-center wall to give the Rebellion a 9-1 lead. The eight-run advantage would prove to be the final margin as PA took the evening victory.

The scoring in game two opened when Alexa Peterson hit a two run home run over the left field wall in the bottom of the first inning to make the score 2-0 in favor of the Rebellion. Ashley Thomas then got the Racers on the board in the top of the second inning with an RBI single to cut the Rebellion lead to 2-1.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Virginie Anneveld hit an RBI single up the right field line to make the score 3-1 Rebellion. Taylor Schlopy tied the game in the top of the fifth inning with a two run home run off of Emma Johnson.

The Rebellion retaliated and took the lead for good in the bottom of the sixth when Alexa Peterson led off the at-bat with a double to left. Back-to-back sacrifice hits from Kristyn Sandberg and Alisa Goler gave PA the one-run lead late. Haylie Wagner was called upon to close the game out for the Rebellion, and she did just that earning her third save of 2015.

The Rebellion will return to action on Saturday, August 8 when they take on Akron for the third time in two days at CONSOL Energy Park.
