Rebellion and Dawgs Split Double Header

Washington, PA - The Pennsylvania Rebellion and the Scrap Yard Dawgs played a pair of games tonight from Consol Energy Park in Washington, PA. The two teams split the double header as they concluded the three game series. The first game went the way of the Dawgs by a score of 5-2, while Game 2 was claimed by the Rebellion, 7-1.

The first game was a continuation of game two of the series which was suspended Monday night due to rain. The game resumed in the bottom of the 2nd inning with one out and score. 

After the Rebellion were kept off the scoreboard in the bottom half of the 2nd, the Dawgs struck first in the 3rd. A two-run homer from Catcher Amanda Chidester, her second straight game with a long ball, propelled the Dawgs to a 2-0 lead. 

In the 5th inning, Dawgs Center Fielder Emilee Koerner kept her hot bat going when her solo home run increased the lead to 3-0. It would end up being the game-winning run. For that important homer, Koerner earned Powerhandz Player of the Game honors. 

The Dawgs added single insurance runs in the 6th and 7th. Right Fielder Lee Ann Spivey singled home a run in the 6th and Left Fielder Renee Irwin blasted a solo home run in the 7th.

The lone Rebellion tallies of the game came off the bat of the Rookie Lexie Elkins. The number one overall draft pick in the 2016 NPF Draft crushed a two-run bomb in 6th inning. It was her second career hit and second career home run. 

Dawgs Pitcher Rachel Fox picked up the win with her strong performance in relief. She tossed 5.2 innings with the Elkins homer being the only blemish. 

In Game 2, the Rebellion bats finally came to life. 

After three scoreless innings, Pennsylvania blew the game wide open in the bottom of the 4th.  Dawgs Pitcher Sara Nevins got into trouble when a walk to Designated Player Mandy Ogle loaded the bases. She then followed that with to straight walks to Short Stop Chaley Brickey and Third Baseman Whitney Arion pushed across the first two runs of the game. The Dawgs brought Pitcher Rachel Fox back in the game to try to get out of the jam, but she didn't have the same success she had in Game 1. After walking Second Baseman Kayla Winkfield to make it 3-0, Center Fielder Lindsey Stephens hit a sacrifice fly to left field and it was 4-0. Left Fielder Alexa Peterson continued the barrage when her single brought home another run and it was 5-0. The final blow the inning came via Lexie Elkins again whose two-run single made it 7-0 and gave her 4 RBI's during the double header. 

The Dawgs got one run in the 6th inning when Pinch Hitter Christ Orgeron hit into a fielder's choice with the bases loaded. Haylie Wagner came onto pitch for the Rebellion in the 6th and recorded the final five outs to seal the victory.

There were many contenders in the running to be Powerhandz Player of the Game. An honorable mention goes to Alexa Peterson for a 3-for-4 day at the plate and another RBI. The Player of the Game is Rebellion Pitcher Emma Johnson. She tossed 5.1 innings and struck out six batters while only allowing a run and three hits. 

The Rebellion (3-4) hit the road to start a three game series in Akron tomorrow against the Racers. The Scrap Yard Dawgs (2-4) head home to play their first home games of the year starting Friday when they battle with the USSSA Pride.
