Real Salt Lake News Release
SANDY, UTAH (Sunday, October 25, 2009) - Tickets for Real Salt Lake's home opener in its 2009 Eastern Conference Semifinal Series are NOW on sale to the general public. The dates, kickoff times and opposition for RSL's playoff opener, which will take place against either the defending MLS Cup Champion Columbus Crew (East #1-seed) or the Chicago Fire (#2-seed), will be set this afternoon, depending upon the result of Columbus' season-finale against the New England Revolution (4:00 p.m. MT; live on ESPN2). Seats are available through the RSL ticket office by calling (801) 727-2700 or -2702, or by logging onto the official Rio Tinto Stadium web site, www.RioTintoStadium.com. Individual tickets to the home playoff match begin at just $15 per seat, while groups of 20 or more can purchase tickets at various discounted rates. To purchase your tickets, or for up-to-date schedules and additional information, please log on to either www.RioTintoStadium.com or www.RealSaltLake.com.
Real Salt Lake 2009 Season Ticket holders will have exclusive access to their current seating location until close-of-business on Wednesday; however, they can enjoy access to special season-ticket holder pricing until the day of the game. Season ticket holders can purchase an unlimited amount of playoff seats at the individual game rate.
Tickets for the MLS Cup Playoffs at Rio Tinto Stadium are available for $15 (Upper Deck), $25 (North Goal), $30 (South Goal), $35 (Corner Flag), $45 (Lower Sideline), $60 (Stadium) and $75-$125 (Club), with discounts in each section available for group purchases of 20 seats or more. Fans can also purchase special-edition $25 KFC Colonel's Corner vouchers at any participating Wasatch Front location, while limited supplies last. As always with the KFC voucher, early redemption at the Rio Tinto Stadium box office is encouraged as the KFC Colonel's Corner - southeast corner sections 6 and 7 - is capped at 799 seats for each event.
Should New England defeat Columbus in the last of the League's 225 regular season contests, Real Salt Lake would earn the fourth Wild Card spot and, subsequently, the #4 seed in the East, giving the Utah side the chance to dethrone the defending MLS Cup Champion Columbus Crew in the first round of the postseason. Meanwhile, a Revolution loss or tie would result in RSL claiming the #3 East/Wild Card slot and a match-up with the Chicago Fire.
Real Salt Lake (11-12-7, 40 points) earned its postseason slot thanks to its captivating 3-0 win over Rocky Mountain Cup rival Colorado Rapids last night at Rio Tinto Stadium, while clinching the Rocky Mountain Cup for a third straight year and potentially knocking the Rapids out of postseason contention for the third consecutive season in the process. With the victory, which also set a franchise mark for wins in a season at 11, Head Coach Jason Kreis' side clinched a postseason berth for the second straight season, this after the club failed to advance to the playoffs in any of the organization's first three campaigns. In 2009, RSL also equaled a new MLS mark for greatest home goal differential, outscoring opponents 34-11 in its 15 regular-season contests at Rio Tinto Stadium. The plus-23 mark nearly eclipsed the MLS standard previously set by the 1998 Chicago Fire (1999 Dallas Burn and 2002 San Jose Earthquakes each went plus-21 at home).
Season Tickets for the 2010 Real Salt Lake campaign remain on sale to new buyers, as the team's existing season ticket base enjoy the new world-class sports and entertainment venue via an interactive, customer-service oriented process, supported by the cutting-edge Veritix ticketing system, the industry leader in digital ticketing and relationship marketing applications. Virtual tours of the Stadium are available at www.RioTintoStadium.com. Season ticket packages for the 20-game, 2010 package range from $275 to $7,500, with all season-ticket holders receiving the right of first refusal for use of their seats during all non-RSL events hosted by the Stadium.
