Real Monarchs SLC Visits Phoenix Rising FC Friday in Western Conference Semifinal

HERRIMAN, Utah - Real Monarchs SLC continues its journey through the USL Championship Playoffs as it visits Phoenix Rising FC on Friday, November 1 at Casino Arizona Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. MT and can be viewed live on ESPN+.

Real Monarchs advanced through to the Western Conference Semifinal for the first time in franchise history after earning an emphatic 6-2 victory - the most single-game goals ever for the Monarchs - over Orange County SC last Saturday. MF Maikel Chang and FW Douglas Martinez each recorded a goal within the first 30 minutes, while a brace from team captain MF Jack Blake and goals from DFs Tate Schmitt Erik Holt in the second half secured the win over OCSC.

After the result between Phoenix Rising FC and Austin Bold FC on Saturday, the Monarchs are now set to visit its Four-Corners rival in the Western Conference Semifinal. Rising FC advanced after a scoreless 120 minutes ended in a penalty shootout that saw Phoenix come out the victor, 8-7 after the shootout. In the last meeting at Casino Arizona Field, Real Monarchs served Phoenix Rising FC its first home loss of 2019 in early October by a 2-1 score line.

Friday's winner will advance to the Western Conference Final and will host either El Paso Locomotive FC or Sacramento Republic FC who feature on the opposite side of the bracket.

At the end of the 2019 Regular Season, Real Monarchs SLC has seen 22 unique players tally a goal in a Monarchs jersey. The attacking front is led by Honduran International FW Douglas Martinez, who earned the club's Golden Boot with recorded 16 goals as well as 6 assists across 22 appearances. Meanwhile, MF Maikel Chang and Team Captain Jack Blake continues to provide a meaningful presence in the midfield providing a combined 21 goals and 7 assists as of October 19.

In front goal, USL Veteran DF Noah Powder has made himself a mainstay on the backline with 29 starts and 30 appearances so far this season. Paired with fellow defenders, Kalen Ryden, Jordan Pena, Konrad Plewa, and Erik Holt the Monarchs backline solidified to help push the team to its third top-four finish in as many years to make its third consecutive playoff appearance.

In goal, GK Andrew Putna and GK David Ochoa paired to a combined goals against average of 1.45 sharing 2,610 minutes. The two each earned four clean sheets to record eight total throughout the 2019 Regular Season. Putna finished off his season making an appearance on the USL Championship Week 32 Team of the Week, having made 32 saves in 15 appearances. Ochoa made 54 saves in 16 appearances as well as having been featured for the USMNT U-20 team. Ochoa returned to Utah after featuring in two matches of the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup where he tallied one shutout and was named to the 2019 MLS Homegrown Game roster.
