ORLANDO, FL--- The Tampa Bay Devil Rays today announced their minor league coaches for 2003. The announcement will have a major effect here in Orlando, as 2002 skipper Mako Oliveras leaves for Charleston and former single-A Bakersfield manager Charlie Montoya assumes the reins here in Central Florida.

Charlie Montoyo begins his 7th season in the Rays organization, first as the manager for AA Orlando. He skippered the Bakersfield Blaze the last two seasons and was one game shy of qualifying for the playoffs for the second consecutive season. Dick Bosman, former major league pitching coach returns for his second season with Orlando as pitching coach, third in the Rays organization. Matt Lucero joins the O'Rays staff as the new trainer after two years with the Bakersfield Blaze. This is Lucero's fifth season with the organization.

Former major leaguer infielder Skeeter Barnes, 45, joins Class AA Orlando as coach for his first season in the Rays organization, 9th season in coaching. He spent the last two seasons as coach for AAA Indianapolis, a Milwaukee Brewers affiliate. He also served as the Class A Lakeland Tigers manager in 2000, and as coach with AAA Toledo (1995-96, 99) and with Class A Western Michigan (1997-98). The Ohio native played in parts of nine seasons with four clubs: Cincinnati (1983-84, 89), Montreal (1985), St. Louis (1987) and Detroit (1991-94). Barnes, a career .259 hitter, started at every position except pitcher and catcher in his 353 game career.
