
Rays Hold on for 7-4 Win over Astros

Greeneville, TN - After rain delayed the start just over an hour on Tuesday night, the Greeneville Astros (17-16) put four runs on the board after an early deficit, but fell short to the Princeton Rays (19-12) in a 7-4 game. Despite the loss, the Astros remain in first place in the Appalachian League West Division.
In the third inning, Astros shortstop Miguelangel Sierra was hit by a pitch to get on base. Then, the 18-year-old was moved over to second base by Marcos Almonte and scored on a wild pitch.
The Astros scored their next three runs in the sixth inning. To start the inning off Sierra drew a walk. Then, with one out, the Astros' next two batters, Connor MacDonald and Troy Sieber, hit singles to load up the bases. Next up to bat, Frankeny Fernandez hit a single to left field to score Sierra and keep the bases loaded. MacDonald then came in to score off a Jonathan Arauz ground out. Finally, Abraham Toro-Hernandez doubled to score Sieber to conclude the Astros best inning of the night.
The Rays came out strong and scored four runs in the first inning. The first run for the Rays was scored on an Emilio Gustave single to right field. The next three runs would be scored on an Adrian Rondon homer.
In the fourth, the Rays scored their fifth run on a double by Rafelin Lorenzo. They picked up their sixth run on an Eleardo Cabrera double in the fifth inning. Then, in the sixth inning they concluded the scoring on a Blake Butera double to center field.
Ethan Clark (4-1) earned the win for the Rays after allowing three runs on three hits over five and one-third innings. Sam Long pitched the last inning for the Rays and picked up the save for the night with no runs or hits allowed.
The Astros will battle the Rays in the series rubber match on Wednesday night at 7:00pm.
