Ravens Make the Playoffs

The New Haven Ravens clinched a spot in the Eastern League playoffs with a 4-1 win over Trenton on September 1!

The top two teams in each of the Eastern League's two divisions (Northern and Southern) make the playoffs. As the second place team in the Northern Division, the Ravens will play the first-place Norwich Navigators (New York Yankees affiliate) in the Northern Division Championship Series. In the Southern Division, the Akron Aeros (Indians affiliate) came in first and the Harrisburg Senators (Montreal Expos affiliate) came in second. Both the Division Series and the Championship Series are best-of-five.

In the regular season, the Ravens went 9-11 vs. Norwich. The Ravens won six of ten at historic Yale Field but lost seven of 10 at Norwich's Dodd Stadium. New Haven has won eight of the last thirteen meetings between the two teams, dating back to July 2.

RHP Rhett Parrott (4-1, 2.86 ERA) will pitch game one for the Ravens and RHP Jeremy Cummings (4-3, 3.69 ERA) will pitch game two for the Ravens.

Chris Weekly (.333, 2-for-6), So Taguchi (.314, 11-for-35), Chris Heintz (.313, 15-for-48) and John Gall (.291, 23-for-79) have the best batting averages for the Ravens vs. the Navigators.

Jason Karnuth (0.00 in 10.2 IP), Scotty Layfield (2.25, 8.0 IP), Jeremy Cummings (2.33, 27.0 IP), Brian Langen (3.38, 8.0 IP) and Cheyenne Janke (4.50, 22.0 IP) have the best ERAs for the Ravens vs. the Navigators.

The Division Championship is a best-of-five series which starts on Wednesday, September 4. Here is the schedule:

9/7 Sat. Game #4 New Haven 7:05 (if necessary)

Friday, September 6 is Italian-American Night at historic Yale Field. The first 1,000 fans will receive free pasta courtesy of Stop and Shop.

The winner of the Northern Division Championship Series then plays the winner of the Southern Division Championship Series for the Eastern League title. The Championship is a best-of-five series which starts no later than Tuesday, September 10 (depending on when the Division Championship Series end). Here is the tentative schedule:

* Dates subject to change. If the Division Series end early, the Eastern League Championship Series may be moved up as many as three days.

Game times are at the host team's discretion and not all have been determined. Any home games played at historic Yale Field Monday through Saturday will be played in the evening, while a Sunday game in all likelihood will be an afternoon game.
