
Rattlers Run Past Cannons, 17-11

Boston, MA (July 19, 2007) - The Boston Cannons fell to the Rochester Rattlers 17-11 in front of 6,122 rain soaked fans at Harvard Stadium. Rattlers attackman Joe Walters was named the Bud Light MVP finishing with five goals. The win improves the Rattlers to 7-2 while the Cannons drop to 4-6.
The game was close throughout most of the first quarter. The Rattlers started strong scoring the game's first two goals. Gavin Prout and John Grant Jr. tallied to begin the contest.
Boston went on a run following those two scores, starting with a Tom Zummo goal from Mikey Powell. Chris Mucciolo and John Christmas scored the next two goals to give the Cannons at 3-2 advantage with 2:00 left in the first quarter. That would be the Cannons only lead of the game.
Rochester fired off the next four goals with Walters netting two of his five. Mikey Powell ended the Cannons scoreless streak with one of his two goals on the evening. The Rattlers then scored the final two goals of the half. Rochester went to the locker room in front 8-4.
The second half began with the Powell brothers exchanging goals. Casey recorded his lone tally to start the third quarter. Not to be outdone Mikey scored less than two minutes later.
The teams exchanged goals for most of the third quarter and Rattlers stayed in control in the fourth quarter. The Cannons scored 3 out of 4 at one point to cut the lead to 14-10. Rochester responded with three straight neutralizing the Cannons threat.
Christmas led the way for the Cannons with 4 goals and 1 assist. Jake Coon made 15 saves. Casey Powell finished with a goal and four assists for Rochester. Grant had two goals and two assists. Mike Levin made 14 saves.
The Cannons played the game without primary face-off midfielder David Jenkins who was out with the flu. Alex Smith won 23 of 31 face-offs for the Rattlers.
The Cannons have a bye week and play next at home on August 2 against the Long Island Lizards at 7:30PM.
