Rattlers Roll Cannons 20-10

Rochester, NY - The Boston Cannons fell to the Rochester Rattlers 20-10 in front of 5,759 fans at PAETEC Park in the final game of the 2007 regular season. Boston finishes under .500 for the first time since the 2001 campaign, ending the year at 5-7. The Rattlers finish the season at 9-3. John Grant Jr. earned Bud Light MVP honors scoring 7 goals and adding 3 assists.
Grant Jr. set an MLL record for points in a season in the process, finishing 2007 with 71 total points. Casey Powell scored 6 times and added 2 assists to finish with 8 points.
The Cannons led the game 4-2 at the when Kevin Dougherty netted one of his two goals at the 8:53 mark of the first quarter. Boston didn't score again until the second half. The Cannons went 22:21 of game action without tallying a point. In that time the Rattlers reeled off 10 straight goals to take a 12-4 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Boston showed signs of life early in the second half. The Cannons scored three straight to start the third quarter punctuated by a Mikey Powell connection. Powell finished the game with three goals, giving him 48 points for the 2007 season, his first as a member of the Cannons.
Rochester responded with four straight goals and put the game out of reach.
Jake Coon played the first half in goal for Boston giving way to rookie netminder Kip Turner in the second half. Coon made 6 saves, Turner 10 stops. Mike Levin made 15 saves for the Rattlers.
Alex Smith won 19 of 34 face-offs for Rochester with David Jenkins taking 15 of 34 for the Cannons.
The Rattlers play next at New Balance Championship Weekend on August 25. Rochester is the host city for the event. Information and tickets can be found at www.majorleaguelacrosse.com.
For the first time in team history the Cannons will not make the MLL's postseason. Boston had earned a league record six consecutive playoff berths.
