Raptors start home stand with win over Peoria, 70-34

Rock River began their three-game home stand with a 70-37 win over Peoria in from of over 38-hundred fans at "The Rock Pile" on Saturday Night.

The win moves the Raptors to 3-2 on the season and more importantly, Rock River is now 2-0 in the Central Division. Peoria falls to 0-4 after the loss.

In the first quarter, it looked like the visitors were going to give the home team all they could handle as Peoria jumped out to a 12-7 lead.

A 9 yard touchdown pass from Matt Schaebert to Keith Herron got the Rough Riders on the scoreboard at the 11:04 mark.

Rock River came right back as quarterback Ben Sankey hit John Hollins with a 20-yard scoring strike to make it 7-6 after Dillion Pieffer made the first of his 10 consecutive extra points.

Peoria re-took the lead later in the quarter when Al Ross fell on a Raptor fumble in the end-zone.

When the two teams switched sides to start the second quarter it was all Raptors as they out-scored Peoria 21-0 to take a 28-12 lead into half-time.

Sankey led Rock River on all of their scoring drives in the second quarter as he had three of his five touchdown passes in the second quarter alone.

Tyrece Bulter caught two of those passes from 29 and 14 yards and Hollins added his second touchdown grab of the night from 6 yards out.

After intermission, Peoria got right back on the scoreboard as Schabert hit Brandon Robinson with a 4 yard scoring pass to make the score 28-19 in favor of Rock River

After Sankey hit Hollins with a 42 yard scoring pass, Rock River went to the ground game and that meant healthy doses of Randy Bell rushed for 82 yards on 13 carried and scored on touchdown runs of 20, 16 and five yards. He later caught a 40 yard scoring strike from back-up quarterback Ryan Aulenbacher to complete the Raptors scoring.

Sankey ended the night completing 16 of 23 passes for 208 yards and five touchdown passes. Sankey also ran four a touchdown.

The Big Ten connection of John Hollins from Ohio State and Tyrece Butler of Michigan both had outstanding games for the Raptors.

Hollins caught 6 passes for 86 yards and 3 touchdowns while Butler caught 5 passes for 72 yards and two touchdown passes.

Not to be out-done, the Raptors defense harassed Schabert all night as they recorded five sacks. Lance Samuseva and Anthony Harris each had two sacks. Jermaine Hampton and Billy Cook each picked off a Rough Rider pass.

The Raptors return home on April 29th for the second game of a three game home stand against the Omaha Beef.
