Raptors fall to Sioux Falls, 48-34

Sioux Falls out-scored Rock River 34-14 in the second half to turn a 20-14 half-time deficit into a 48-34 UIF win in front of 4,000 fans at the "Storm Shelter" in Sioux Falls.

The win was the second by the Storm over the Raptors this season as the defending UIF champs downed Rock River 46-20 in the Raptors home opener on April 1st at "The Rockpile."

Sioux Falls drew first blood with when quarterback Terrance Bryant dropped back to pass and hit James Terry with a 35-yard scoring pass and after the extra point kick by Adam Hicks, the Storm led 7-0.

That scoring strike by Bryant proved to be the only points either team would score in the opening frame.

Raptors quarterback Ben Sankey went to work in the second quarter as he tossed three touchdown passes to three different receivers. First, Sankey completed a 35-yard scoring strike to Luke McArdle with 7:52 left to go in the first half.

Later in the quarter, the Raptors quarterback would find Jermaine Thompson and Randy Bell for touchdown passes of 8 and 20 yards.

Sioux Falls scored their only points in the quarter when Bryant completed another long pass this time to Casey Veenhof for 33 yards and a score.

Sioux Falls would score three touchdowns in the third quarter to just two for Rock River.

Ken Horton would have two of those scores and he caught two passes from Bryant from 18 and 34 yards. Bryant would also throw an eight yard touchdown pass to Mike Scott.

Raptors running back Randy Bell would make his presence count in the third period as he scored on an 8 yard run and would return a kick-off 48 yards. Bell ended the night with seven carries for 30 yards.

The Storm put the game away in the fourth quarter as Tyrone Rhone returned an interception 20 yards and Marques Smith would score on a 28 yard run.

Sankey ended the night completing 24 of 37 passes for 233 yards and three touchdowns and 1 interception. That interception was the first of the season for the Raptors quarterback.

McArdle and Ade Adeyemo were the two leading receivers for Rock River as McArdle caught seven passes for 74 yards and Adeyemo had six catches for 55 yards.

Former University of Illinois linebacker Ty Myers was the top tackler for the Raptors with 10. Myers also tied Billy Cook for the team lead in interceptions with two.

After playing three of their first four games on the road, Rock River comes home to the "Rockpile" for a three-game homestand.

First up, is a Central Division game against the Peoria Rough Riders on April 22nd. The Raptors enter the game with a 2-2 record while Peoria is 0-3 after a 60-53 loss to Ohio Valley at Carver Arena in Peoria. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:30

Raptors Notes

- Raptor fans are invited to RBI's Resturant, located at 3870 N. Perryville Road in Rockford at 5:00 p.m. on Monday for the "Rappin' with Coach Richards Show" The show will be broadcasted on the Raptors Radio Network flagship station, WTJK ESPN 1380-AM "The Jock".

Fans are also invitied to hang around at 6:00 p.m. as the team will hold their weekly team meal. Fans will be able to get autographs from their favorite Raptor players.

The game against Peoria marks the first of three straight home games for Rock River. The team also battles the Omaha Beef on April 29th and a re-match against the Bloomington Extreme is set for May 6th. The Raptors beat Bloomington in the final seconds of a 36-34 win on April 8.
