Commerce City, Colo. (Friday, March 30, 2007) - The Colorado Rapids acquired today a fourth round draft pick in 2008 and a conditional draft pick in 2009 from the New York Red Bulls in exchange for Clint Mathis. Per MLS and team regulations, terms of the deal are undisclosed.

"We wish Clint the best and thank him for everything he did for us," said Rapids head coach Fernando Clavijo. "In this trade we were able accommodate the wishes of the player and alleviate some of our salary cap issues."

Mathis was acquired by the Rapids on Dec. 1, 2006 from Real Salt Lake. In one season with Colorado, Mathis scored two goals and recorded one assist while playing in 25 games. He also scored one goal in the playoffs against FC Dallas to help the Rapids advance to the Western Conference Championship.

The Rapids will kick off the 2007 MLS season on April 7 at 1:30 p.m. MT against DC United at the brand-new state-of-the-art Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colorado.
