
Rangers win in shootout

Wyandotte - The Marquette Rangers Junior hockey team needed extra time Friday night at Yack Arena in suburban Detroit, skating to a 4-3 shootout win over the Motor City Metal Jackets in North American Hockey League North Division action.
The Rangers (6-1) dominated the opening period taking a 2-0 lead into the locker room after 20 minutes of play behind goals from Tanner Kero (Hancock, Mich) and Josh Bussell (LaSalle, Mich.) For Bussell, it was his first game back in a Rangers uniform after a year away from the club due to trades within the NAHL.
Marquette outshot Motor City 19 - 5 in the opening period.
The second period was a different story; as Motor City scored two goals to even the contest, with both goals being scored by the Metal Jackets Billy Balent. Motor City outshot Marquette 11 4 in the second stanza.
The Rangers Andrew Kolb scored his fifth goal of the season at 3:15 of the third period to give Marquette a 3-2 lead, but it was short lived as Motor Citys Cody Wydo would even the game at three-all two minutes later forcing overtime.
After a scoreless five minute overtime period, the Rangers outscored Motor City in the shootout 3 2 to capture the win and two points in the NAHL North Division race.
Kevin Kissaw stopped 15 of 18 Motor City shots in the game to improve to 5 - 1 on the season, while his counterpart Randy Willis was much busier stopping 36 of 39 efforts by Marquette.
The Rangers and Metal Jackets conclude their two game series at 7:30 Saturday night in Wyandotte.
