December 19, 2009 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Marquette Rangers News Release
Alpena - On Valentine's Day 2007, the Marquette Rangers beat the Alpena IceDiggers 7 - 1 at Alpena's Northern Lights Arena. It would go down as the teams' largest margin of victory in their history, and would set the record for most goals scored by the Rangers in a game.
Both of those records were updated on Saturday night December, 19th 2009.
The Rangers scored early and often Saturday evening in Alpena, blowing out the IceDiggers 8 - 1 behind a pair of goals each from Garrett Ladd and Andrew Kolb. With the win, and last nights' Traverse City loss to Janesville; the Rangers have taken over sole possession of first place in the North American Hockey League North Division.
The three game series between Marquette and Alpena concludes Sunday afternoon at 3:00, with Marquette vying to extend their two point lead over the North Stars.
This weekend's action sets up next weekend's North Division series between the Rangers and Traverse City at Centre Ice Arena in Traverse City.
Marquette (18 - 9, 36 pts.) would also get scoring contributions in the game from Tanner Kero, Trevor Ladd, Nate Taurence and Marquette native Brad Chapman in the record-setting win.
Kevin Kissaw turned aside 34 of 35 IceDigger shots to pick up his 12th win of the season against six losses. Garrett Jenson and John Lacosta split duty in a losing effort for Alpena, combining for 16 saves on 24 Rangers efforts on the evening.
All Rangers games are available with streaming video and audio from B2 Networks through the teams' website: www.marquetterangers.com.
