Rangers Sweep Motor City

Wyandotte - The Marquette Rangers Junior hockey team completed their sweep of the Motor City Metal Jackets Saturday night at Yack Arena in Wyandotte behind the shutout goaltending of Kevin Kissaw.

Kissaw (Goodrich, Mich.) made 34 saves to record his second shutout of the season, and his fourth in two years between the pipes for head coach Kenny Miller's club.

With the win, Marquette (7 - 1) takes over sole possession of first place in the North American Hockey League North Division with 14 points. For Motor City (3 - 1 - 3, 9 pts 3rd place) it was their first regulation time loss of the 2009 - 10 season.

Tanner Kero (Hancock, Mich.) scored what would turn out to be the eventual game winner at 1:03 of the opening period. The Rangers Scott Henegar and Collin Saint-Onge assisted on the even strength goal. It was the fourth goal of the season for the first year Ranger to go along with two assists for six points on the year.

Garrett Ladd would add a power play goal at 5:32 of the second period, with the lone assist given to Kissaw. For Kissaw, it was his second assist of the season.

Motor City's Jason Torf took the loss, his first of the season despite stopping 30 of 32 Marquette shots during the game. Motor City was 0 - 5 on the power play, Marquette went one for six with the man advantage.

The Rangers return home to face the Alpena IceDiggers this coming Friday and Saturday at Lakeview Arena, face off both nights is at 7:30.
