Rangers Release Schedule

Marquette - The Marquette Rangers tier II Junior A hockey team has released their schedule for the upcoming 2009 - 10 North American Hockey League season. The team will play 54 regular season games beginning in late September, in addition to playing four games in four days at the annual NAHL Showcase at the Schwan's Super Rink Complex in Blaine, Minnesota in mid-September.

Rangers' fans will also see several new opponents at Lakeview Arena this season with the addition of the Janesville (WI) Jets to the NAHL North Division; and the need to play more interdivisional games with the departure of both Mahoning Valley and the U.S. National Team Development Program to the United States Hockey League during the off-season.

In addition to divisional games with Janesville, Motor City, Alpena and Traverse City; Marquette will also host the Fairbanks (AK) Ice Dogs of the NAHL West Division and the North Iowa Outlaws of the NAHL Central. Marquette will also play at Albert Lea (MN) of the NAHL Central Division during the season. "We're very pleased with how this whole year fell into place," said Rangers President and General Manager David Saint-Onge. "We're excited about the North Division, and very excited to bring in both Fairbanks and North Iowa for our fans this year. Any time we can feature new competition and new teams it makes coming to a Rangers game that much more interesting and fun for fans of our club."

Saint-Onge also said his organization was very happy to maintain ticket prices for 2009 - 10.

"Our goal was to remain affordable and keep our prices competitive," he added. "I'm very pleased that we were able to do that. Given today's economic climate, with prices on everything continuing to rise, we're confident in our ability to provide quality family entertainment and continue to do it at a very attractive price."

Several special-event evenings are planned for the season, including the third annual "Paint the Rink Pink" night; a fundraiser in cooperation with the Marquette General Foundation. The "Pink Game" will be Saturday October 17th when the Rangers host the Alpena IceDiggers.

Several new merchandise items will be available well in advance of the event this year, and the "Pink Game" will also feature a new logo, the ice at Lakeview Arena will be dyed pink, and a new jersey will be available for fans to bid on at the conclusion of the game.

"This game has really become a signature event for our club," Saint-Onge said. "It's been a great partnership with Marquette General and it benefits a great cause while teaching our young men a great lesson on community involvement."

In two years, the "Pink Game" has raised over $35,000.00 to assist patients at the Cancer Center at MGH.

Also returning for another year is NASCAR Night with Hoover's Auto Body of Marquette. The NASCAR weekend will be February 4th - 6th with the racing style jersey's being auctioned off after the game on Saturday the 6th.

The Rangers and Traverse City North Stars will continue their annual battle for the newly re-named "Charter Communications Challenge Cup with 14 games between the two teams this season.

Several other promotions are planned, and will be announced during the course of the season.

The Rangers are continuing preparations for their final Open Tryout Camp at Northern Michigan University July 13th - 15th, followed immediately by their Final Camp at NMU.
