Rangers Ready for Big Weekend
October 14, 2009 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Marquette Rangers News Release
Marquette - The Marquette Rangers and Alpena IceDiggers have faced one another on consecutive weekends before. This time however, the Rangers will have a few additional distractions as the two teams play their North American Hockey League games this Friday in Alpena,, and at Lakeview Arena on Saturday.
At the top of the agenda, the Rangers will try and hold on to first place in the NAHL North Division race as they lead second place Traverse City by one point. And they'll try and accomplish that amongst all the distractions of this Saturday's "Paint the Rink Pink" fundraiser and breast cancer awareness game.
"We've been everywhere promoting this Saturday," said Rangers head coach Kenny Miller. "It's great for our guys to get a feel for being involved in such a great event and to get out and be in the community this way; but at the end of the day we still have to play the game."
"I hope our guys can be ready for a tough opponent this weekend, because even though we're playing for a great event our job is still winning hockey games; so we've been focusing on reminding the guys that the game still needs to be played while we're taking part in the fundraiser for the hospital."
Marquette (8 - 2, 10 pts.) are coming off a split with Alpena at Lakeview Arena last weekend winning 3 - 0 on Friday, falling to the IceDiggers 3 -1 on Saturday. Alpena (3 - 8, pts.) trails the Janesville (Wis) Jets by four points for fourth place in the North Division.
The Rangers continue to be led in scoring by Garrett Ladd (Fenton, Mich.) who sports 15 points on the season behind six goals and nine assists. Andrew Kolb (11 pts.) and Brent Bain (10 pts.) join Ladd in double digit scoring on the team so far this season.
Goaltender Kevin Kissaw continues to lead all NAHL goaltenders with a 7 - 2 record to go with a goals-against average of 1.43 and a .961 saves percentage on the season.
The teams play at 7:30 Friday at Northern Lights Arena in Alpena before returning for Saturday nights game at Lakeview Arena.
