Rangers prepare for weekend

January 25, 2007 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Marquette Rangers News Release

The Marquette Rangers take on the Alpena Ice Diggers Friday at Lakeview Arena and travel to play at Alpena Saturday, facing-off both nights at 7 p.m... Currently third place in the North American Hockey League's North division, the Rangers are leading the U.S. National Development team and Traverse City North Stars by three points.

Since recent roster and organizational changes, the Rangers have won four of their last seven games played and gone into overtime twice, improving their overall record to 15-20-4. The Rangers split last weekend against the USNTDP was a great effort from the line of Chris Smith, James Gallagher and Nick Kosinski. Not only did the line have a combined eight points, three of their goals tied the game and Kosinski and Gallagher scored the only goals in Saturday night's shootout. Jake Hauswirth continued his strong play adding two points to his total, along with the game winner on a one time blast Friday night.

According to Head Coach Randy Enders, "The guys have been preparing hard all week getting ready for another tough series with Alpena. Our team strength comes from when we work hard. We have certain details that we'll focus on and for us to be successful we need to execute those, on top of having a great effort. If our guys continue to work hard and limit mistakes, we will put ourselves in good positions that will help us be successful."

The Rangers goaltending has shown to be a triumph with the combined effort of Matthew Brooker and recent addition, Beau Christian. "The last two weeks are goaltending has been a big key for us because we've had great performances from both of them. The combination of Brooker and Christian has given us a tandem that we can really rely on," says Coach Enders.

Brodie Zuk continues to lead the Rangers' scoring with 35 points in 35 games played with Kosinski barely trailing with 35 points in 39 games. Neeco Belanger has amassed 28 points, while Nic Weight and Jake Hauswirth each have 22.
