Rangers Playing for Local Charities

November 20, 2007 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Marquette Rangers News Release

Marquette - Marquette Rangers players will be skating against one another during the course of the season in an attempt to raise money for local non-profit organizations in Marquette County.

The "Rock" Stars of the game, a play on the name of the Rangers' mascot, will be determined after each game and tallied throughout the season by the Rangers front office. The player accumulating the most points will then have a donation made in their name to the non-profit of their choice at the conclusion of the season.

The players have each picked a charitable organization from a list provided by the Marquette Community Foundation, and have been competing against one another since the North American Hockey League Showcase in September.

"It's another way for our guys to learn what it means to be involved in your community" said Rangers head coach Randy Enders. "We want our players to learn about the area they represent, and to learn the importance of getting involved. Playing Junior "A" Hockey is about more than just being a successful player on the ice, it's a time in these guys' lives when they're being shaped as men and we want them to learn about what's important. This program is a unique combination of hockey and life skills, and our guys are really excited to have this opportunity to go against one another for these local organizations."

The points will be awarded the same way the traditional 3 Star Selections are given out, with 3 points going to the top star; 2 to the second and 1 point for the third star.

Fans can keep updated on the "Rock" Stars' status after each weekend on the teams' website www.marquetterangers.com.
