Rangers Lose Another Matinee Game

Traverse City - The Marquette Rangers junior hockey team continued their struggles at Center Ice Arena in Traverse City this season, falling Tuesday afternoon 3 -2 to Traverse City North Stars.

On the year, Marquette is 0 - 4 at Centre Ice; and with the loss the Rangers have fallen into second place behind the Stars in the North American Hockey League North Division race.

Traverse City received scoring from Nick Shkreli and Sean Burke in the first period to take a 2 - 1 lead into the first intermission. Josh Bussell scored the Rangers first goal of the game in the first period with a power play goal at 17:35. Andrew Kolb and Brent Bain assisted on Bussell's 10th goal of the season.

Garrett Thompson scored the eventual game-winner for Traverse City in the second period from Curtis Heinz and Doug Clifford at 4:25. Tanner Kero made it 2 - 1 at 16:04 of the third period to cut the North Stars lead to one before time ran out on the Marquette comeback.

Lukas Hafner stopped 32 of the 35 shots he faced on the evening in goal for the Rangers, while his counterpart Drew Strandberg faced 25 shots; stopping 23 in picking up the win.

Seven Rangers, Miller off to NAHL Top Prospects

Frisco, Texas - The North American Hockey League announced today the 20-man rosters for its third annual Top Prospects Tournament, which will be held January 18-20, 2010 at the Ice Cube in Ann Arbor.

Seven Marquette Rangers have been selected to represent the North Division, while Rangers head coach Kenny Miller will also guide the North Division team at the event.

The event will feature all-star teams from the NAHL's Central, North, South and West Divisions competing in a three-game, round-robin tournament.

"I give a lot of credit to our Top Prospects Tournament Selection Committee for their efforts in evaluating and selecting the best our league has to offer to compete in this prestigious event," said NAHL commissioner Mark Frankenfeld. "In a short time, Top Prospects has evolved into one of North America's premier scouting showcases, and, like the previous two years, we expect a number of our student-athletes to receive deserved college opportunities following the event."

In the three five-team divisions - the Central, North and South - six players were selected from the first-place teams as of December 20 (Bismarck Bobcats, Marquette Rangers, St. Louis Bandits); five from the second-place teams (Owatonna Express, Janesville Jets, Topeka RoadRunners); three from the third- and fourth-place teams (North Iowa Outlaws/Alexandria Blizzard, Traverse City North Stars/Motor City Metal Jackets, Texas Tornado/Springfield Jr. Blues); and two from the fifth-place teams (Albert Lea Thunder, Alpena IceDiggers, Wichita Falls Wildcats).

One wildcard player was also selected from each of the three divisions (Owatonna/Marquette/Topeka).

Andrew Kolb - Toledo, Ohio - 13 goals 18 assists, 31 pts.

Scott Henegar - Trenton, Mich. - 7 goals 15 assists, 22 pts.

Collin Saint - Onge - Marquette, Mich. - 11 goals 14 assists, 25 pts.

Defensemen:

Austin Accettura - Novi, Mich. - 0 goals 8 assists, 8 pts.

Kevin Gibson - Grosse Pointe, Mich - 0 goals 11 assists, 11 pts.

Goaltender:

Kevin Kissaw - Goodrich Mich. - 12 wins 8 losses, 2.40 goals against, .930 saves percentage.
