Marquette Rangers News Release
Marquette - The race for third place in the North American Hockey League North Division between the Marquette Rangers and the Alpena IceDiggers looks like it may go down to the end of the season. Especially if the first two games of this weekend's three game series is any indication.
The IceDiggers responded to Marquette's 3-2 overtime win on Friday by beating the Rangers 2-1 at Northern Lights Arena in Alpena Saturday night.
The teams will wrap-up their three-game set Sunday afternoon at 4:00 PM.
The game was scoreless after two periods of play before the IceDiggers would jump out to a 2-0 lead on two goals within one minute of each other in the third period. Jimmy McCusker at 8:44 of the period and Mike DeGrazia at 9:44 of the third was all the scoring Alpena would need to take a two point lead over the Rangers in the NAHL North Division race for third place.
Marquette would respond to the outburst with Chad Pietilla scoring his team leading 17th goal of the year with the assist to Austin Accettura; but it wouldn't be enough at the Rangers couldn't get the equalizer down the stretch.
Kevin Kissaw stopped 28 of 30 Alpena shots, while his counterpart Nick Graves made 22 saves on 23 Marquette attempts to pick up the win.
The two teams will play again Sunday afternoon at 4:00 PM, the game will be available with streaming audio and video through B2 Networks at the teams' website www.marquetterangers.com.
