Marquette Rangers News Release
Marquette - After Friday nights' loss to the Marquette Rangers, Janesville Jets coach Dane Litke talked about the lack of effort being the key element that cost his team the win. Saturday night, after losing to Janesville 5-3, it was Rangers' coach Kenny Miller's turn.
"We jumped out to an early lead and all of a sudden guys start thinking its "point night" at Lakeview," Miller said after watching his team fall Saturday night.
"They outworked us, they won the battles, and never took their foot off the gas and we never responded like we need to if we're going to be successful this season. If we don't work, we don't win and that was very evident here tonight."
Miller added that the team has been playing long enough now that players should come to the table prepared.
"What's disappointing for me is we're 20 games in to the season, and for some reason we got a lead and we quit working and they didn't. Our guys must realize that it takes hard work and an edge and an attitude to win in this league; and for some reason it's just not been there most games for a full 60 minutes and tonight it really hurt us."
Marquette jumped out to a 2 - 0 lead just 3:36 into the contest with goals from Brent Bain and Collin Saint-Onge, only to the Jets tie it on consecutive goals from Derek Jacobsen and Gherett Sargis within the next 10 minutes of play.
Hancock native Tanner Kero would give Marquette a 3 - 2 lead late in the first with assists to Marquette native Brad Chapman along with Kevin Gibson.
The lead would hold up through most of the second period until the Jets scored twice in the last five minutes when both Jacobseon and Sargis would score their second of the night to give the Jets the lead after 40 minutes.
The Jets' Zack Smoot added an empty net goal with 32 seconds remaining for the final score.
Matt Wichorek picked up the win in net for Janesville stopping 22 of 25 shots, while Lukas Hafner took the loss for Marquette making 39 saves on the night.
