Traverse City North Stars News Release

MARQUETTE - The Traverse City North Stars came into Thursday night's game with an opportunity to put a chokehold on the NAHL North Division standings, but after a 2-1 loss to Marquette at Lakeview Arena, the three-team chase for the regular season title is as murky as ever.

The Rangers and Stars are tied for the division lead with just two regular season games remaining, while third-place Janesville is a mere three points back. Janesville plays at Marquette twice this weekend, while Traverse City has a home-and-home series with Alpena that gets underway on Friday night at Centre ICE.

Dan Radke (Orinda, CA/TC North Stars/Lake Superior St.) got the North Stars out front with the lone goal of the first period, depositing a rebound past Kevin Kissaw at 10:34. Doug Clifford (Woodhaven, MI/ Mahoning Valley NAHL) and Garrett Thompson (Traverse City, MI/TC North Stars) assisted.

Garrett Ladd tied things up at 7:17 of the second stanza, and Brad Chapman's goal 2:57 into the third proved to be the game-winner.

Drew Strandberg (Thunder Bay, ONT/Thunder Bay SIJHL) was effective in net for the Stars, stopping 30 of 32 shots, while Kissaw left the game for good with an apparent lower-body injury with 7:36 to play.

The North Stars can still lay claim to a North Division title by out- pointing the Rangers this weekend, but could finish in the third- place spot as well with a pair of regulation losses and a Janesville sweep.

Friday is Fan Appreciation Night at Centre ICE arena, with tons of giveaways to the Stars faithful. The game is slated for a 7 p.m. face-off.
