Marquette Rangers News Release
Marquette - Fans of the Marquette Rangers junior hockey team won't have Alpena captain Jimmy McCusker to yell at any longer. The fourth year forward has been traded from the IceDiggers to the Rangers and will be in Kenny Millers' lineup this weekend.
"We've been working this one for awhile," Miller said Monday after the deal was completed an approved by the North American Hockey League."
"Jimmy's a team guy who will do really whatever we ask of him. He's a player who's been in this league for a long time, so he knows what is expected of him. He's got the ability to do all the things we need, from killing penalties to putting pressure on the opponent in their zone to putting the puck in the net. He adds a dimension that really fits into our plan of success."
Miller added that since he and McCucker were also together during the coach's time in Alpena, the transition to the Rangers should be quite easy.
"We know each other very well from before, he knows what I want and I know what he brings so I'm confident he'll jump right in and help us down the stretch."
In return for McCusker, the Rangers sent forward Danny Wood to Alpena.
So far this season, McCusker has played in 32 games and scored 19 points on six goals and 13 assists to go along with 55 penalty minutes. During his tenure in Alpena the downstate Novi native has 118 points on 50 goals and 68 helpers in just over three and a half seasons.
The Rangers play first-place Traverse City at home this Thursday at Lakeview Arena before hosting the Motor City Metal Jackets Friday and Saturday. Game time all three nights is at 7:30PM.
