Rampage loses 2006 regular season finale

Grand Rapids Rampage News Release

The Grand Rapids Rampage hoped to be playing in the playoffs next weekend, however, three turnovers caused by former Rampage Dennison Robinson eliminated Grand Rapids as it lost 70-47 to the Chicago Rush in the 2006 regular season finale on Centennial Wireless Field at Van Andel Arena Saturday afternoon.

Robinson forced a fumble near the Rush goal line that prevented the Rampage from tying the game on its second possession. After Grand Rapids' defense had its only stop of the day, Robinson took back any momentum the team had near the end of the first half. He picked off Rampage quarterback Chad Salisbury in the Rush end zone stopping a possession that would have potentially pulled the Rampage to within four points at halftime. Instead, the Rush led 35-20 after 30 minutes. Robinson's second interception ended any hope for a Rampage comeback.

Chicago scored touchdowns on eight of its nine possessions, only being stopped on a turnover on downs. The Rush also returned two Rampage onside kicks for scores. Grand Rapids had touchdowns on just six of its eleven possessions. It was forced to settle for field goals twice inside the Rush ten-yard line along with the three turnovers.

Rampage WR/DB Timon Marshall became the team's single-season leader in all-purpose yards on his first reception of the day, a 44-yarder from Chad Salisbury. Marshall finished the game with 234 all-purpose yards and his 2,734 for the season led the AFL this season. He is the first Rampage player ever to lead the AFL in all-purpose yardage.

Marshall caught eight passes for 115 yards with one touchdown. He also returned five kickoffs for 119 yards and posted two assisted tackles. On the season, Marshall had 102 receptions for 1,324 yards and 19 receiving TDs. He also had 69 kickoff returns (a new team record) for 1,316 yards. Overall, he posted 21 touchdowns.

Salisbury completed 30-of-49 passes for 300 yards with five touchdowns and two interceptions. It marked Salisbury's fifth game with 300 or more passing yards this season, which tied the franchise mark for the most in a season. His completions and attempts are new career highs.

Rampage WR/DB Josh Bush had a career-high 13 receptions for 101 yards and a touchdown. Bush joined Marshall, kicker Peter Martinez and offensive specialist Anthony Hines as the second group of four Rampage players in team history to score 100 points each in the same season. Hines had six grabs on the day for 67 yards and three scores. On the season, Hines finished with 124 catches for 1,329 yards and 25 touchdowns.

The Rampage finished 5-3 at home this season. Its five wins are the second-most in a single-season in team history. 2007 Rampage season tickets are on sale now.
