Grand Rapids Rampage News Release
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Grand Rapids Rampage of the Arena Football League today activated fullback/linebacker Travis McDonald and offensive/defensive lineman Rickie Simpkins from injured reserve. The Rampage also placed wide receiver/linebacker Ricky Ross and offensive/defensive lineman Joe Wylie on the team's injured list.
McDonald (6-2, 254, Missouri) will see his first action of the season after suffering a foot injury during training camp. Last season, McDonald was named the Rampage's Ironman of the Year for his efforts on both sides of the ball. The former Missouri standout contributed a franchise record 5.5 sacks on defense, and rushed for 109 yards and four touchdowns on offense.
Simpkins (6-3, 296, Syracuse), who suffered a knee injury in training camp, also enters his first action of the 2003 season. The former Orangemen played in eight games last season for the Rampage, recording four tackles and two sacks on defense, and two catches for 20 yards and a touchdown on offense.
Ross (5-11, 183, Missouri), who was having his best season in a Rampage uniform, suffered a high ankle sprain in last week's loss to the Georgia Force. X-rays on Ross' ankle were negative, but the sprain was severe enough to keep him sidelined for approximately 4-6 weeks. In six games this season, Ross has returned a fumble, a missed field goal and two kickoffs for touchdowns. He also has chipped in offensively with 18 catches for 172 yards and two touchdowns.
Wylie (6-3, 332, Stephen F. Austin), one of four team captains, will have to sit out the next two weeks due to a lower back injury. The veteran lineman has registered four tackles and a sack in the Rampage's first six games.
Both McDonald and Simpkins will be in uniform as the Rampage (4-2) kick off Central Division play against the Dallas Desperados (4-2) tomorrow afternoon at 4 p.m. The game, which can be heard live on WBBL 1340 AM, marks the Rampage's first trip to Dallas.
