Rainmen Owner And Coach Attend PBL Draft Camp
July 24, 2008 - Premier Basketball League (PBL)
Halifax Rainmen News Release
(Halifax, N.S.) Owner of the Halifax Rainmen Andre Levingston and Coach Rick Lewis are heading to Chicago this weekend for the National PBL try-out combines.
"We are very anxious to begin the process of building the best team with choice players to make up the Halifax Rainmen for the coming season," said Levingston. This mid-west combine is the first of several national try-outs leading to the PBL Lottery Draft this fall.
Twenty-five players will be selected from the camps to become eligible for selection by a PBL team. Teams will participate in a lottery to determine each club's selection order. Players included in the PBL Lottery Draft may also be chosen for a limited franchise contract.
Coach Rick Lewis says he will be looking for players with good skill sets, patterns and high basketball IQs.
"These camps are good, as this is where you'll find the diamonds in the rough. For sure there won't be any Kobe Bryants with all the hype trying out, but you can bet there will be a few players who will stand out. And with the right training could be high calibre players," said Lewis.
The official PBL season gets underway in January, the Rainmen are hoping to schedule several exhibition games in December.
