Halifax Rainmen News Release
(Halifax, N.S.) Being team players in the community is as important to the Halifax Rainmen on the court as it is off the court during the season. Since its inaugural game the team has visited more than 90 minor basketball games, 40 this year alone. Players love to cheer on kids as they strive to improve their skills of the game.
The team has also been to 40 schools over the past year and half, 13 since December, to speak to kids about healthy living, self-esteem and anti-bullying. "I have always believed it's important for us to give back as much as we can. We know our team can have a positive influence over kids, so we want to get out in the community as much as possible," said Team Owner Andre Levingston.
The Rainmen organization has also sponsored numerous events providing tickets and "rain-gear" for charity auctions. The team has given hundreds of tickets away to under-privileged kids to come and enjoy the Rainmen experience.
The Rainmen are not finished the season nor is the team finished its community participation. This Saturday, March 7, McDonald's on Main Street in Dartmouth is hosting an open and free autograph and photo session with the entire team; everyone is invited to come and out and get to know their Rainmen.
On March 21st, the Rainmen are co-hosting a fundraiser for kids help phone at Empire Theatres in Bayers Lake. Kids are invited to come and compete in a free throw contest for great prize packages including tickets to the game on Sunday the 22st. Also on that day, Empire is having a special showing of the movie Space Jam, admission is free, but donations will be accepted and will go to Kids Help Phone.
"The team's title sponsors, Rogers, Z103.5FM and Coca Cola Bottling Ltd., along with our new friend Empire Theatres are all generously donating to this worthwhile cause. We all understand how important the service that Kids Help Phone provides, and we want to be a part in helping them help kids in need," concluded Levingston.
