Ottawa Fury FC News Release
CARY, NC - Despite several excellent scoring chances and Romuald Peiser at the top of his game, Fury FC were not been able to capitalize and were handed their second loss of the season. The RailHawks claimed the 1-0 victory on the shoulders of an early second half goal from Tiyi Shipalane - the win puts the RailHawks atop the NASL standings with a perfect 3-0-0 record, while Fury FC will travel to FC Edmonton next Sunday to renew the All-Canadian rivalry with the Eddies.
"We have a lot of work to do," said head coach Paul Dalglish. "I can't fault the effort of the players, as all of them tried as hard as they could, but we were far away from where we need to be in order to have success."
"We are giving up too many chances and we are not scoring goals. We got humbled tonight against a very good team. It is a reality check for us. We have to use this as a humbling experience this week at training and use it as a motivation to get better."
Romuald Peiser - who was brilliant tonight with six saves on seven shots - set the tone in this contest with an unbelievable save in the second minute of match, when he robbed the NASL's goal scoring leader Austin Da Luz from his fourth goal of the year as he perfectly timed his dive.
After a few threatening crosses from the RailHawks, Fury FC took control of the first half by increasing the pressure on the opposition's defense. In the 10th minute, a great combination on the left side from Paulo Junior and Marcel De Jong almost lead to the first goal of the game, but Idan Vered's header was stopped by Akira Fitzgerald.
Fury FC had their best opportunity on a corner in the 32nd minute when centre back Rafael Alves was left completely unmarked in the box but his shot went just over the crossbar. An entertaining first half ended on a scoreless mark, but Fury FC had the advantage with 55% of possession and 82% passing accuracy. James Bailey, captain Julian de Guzman and Jonny Steele were once again rock solid in the midfield.
The RailHawks opened the scoring early in the second half when Tiyi Shipalane found himself enough space at the edge of the box and curled a shot into the top corner giving his side a 1-0 lead in the 47th minute. Despite a valiant effort in the second half, Fury FC were unable to capitalize on their scoring chances.
Ottawa will close out their season opening four-match road trip next Sunday when they take on FC Edmonton at 4:00 p.m.
