Raiders To Celebrate 40 Years

Prince Albert, Saskatchewan - When the Prince Albert Raiders begin training camp in late August it will mark the beginning of their 40th season in the Saskatchewan city. The team began in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League joining the Western Hockey League after in 1982-83.

The Raiders appeared in five Centennial Cup Championships, winning three (1979, 1981 and 1982) and won their lone Memorial Cup appearance in 1985.

This season the Raiders will celebrate their rich history with the 40th Anniversary as the theme. A committee of alumni, former and current Raider Board members, season ticket holders and Raider staff are working on a number of special activities and events for the year.

The year will kick off with the annual Raider Golf Classic September 8th at Cooke Municipal Golf Course. A limited edition commemorative 40th Year Book will be created in place of the traditional Game Night program. The Raiders are currently soliciting fans for action photos over the years. Anyone with pictures please contact Carrie Georgeson, the editor of the Year Book, at 765-2830.

On Saturday, December 11th, the Raiders will mark the 40th year of their franchise and the building formerly known as the Comuniplex with a special game night. It is anticipated the 40th Year Book will be released on this date.

And in February 2011 a Gala Weekend is being planned that will reunite Raiders from 40 years! It is anticipate the weekend will include a WHL game followed by a day full of reuniting with a banquet then Gala Dance.
