Raiders Still First, Silvertips Take Spot in Top Five of Kia CHL Top 10 Rankings

December 12, 2018 - Western Hockey League (WHL) News Release

Toronto, Ont. - The Canadian Hockey League today announced the week thirteen edition of the Kia CHL Top-10 Rankings for the 2018-19 season. The weekly rankings of the CHL's Top-10 teams are selected by a panel of National Hockey League scouts.

The Western Hockey League's Prince Albert Raiders retained their crown as the top team in the CHL for another week, marking 11-straight weeks in the rankings. They did so with a home-and-home series win against the Brandon Wheat Kings while dropping a shootout contest to the Swift Current Broncos and a tight 1-0 defeat at the hands of the Saskatoon Blades. Most impressive about the Raiders' run is their 14-0-0-0 record at home. They've scored 71 goals at the Art Hauser Centre and allowed a league-low 23 goals to opponents. Looking to push their streak to 15, the Raiders will play host to the Edmonton Oil Kings Wednesday, December 12 (7:00 p.m. CT).

Also occupying a spot in the top of the Kia CHL top 10 Rankings this week were the Everett Silvertips, who continued to lead the U.S. Division and Western Conference standings. In a bid for three-straight division titles, the Silvertips enjoy a 13-point lead over the Portland Winterhawks, also leading the conference standings by seven points over the Vancouver Giants. 2019 NHL Draft prospect and Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week Dustin Wolf has picked up where Carter Hart left off, currently tied for the league lead in victories with 23 while also posting a 1.84 goals-against-average, 0.928 save percentage, and three shutouts. Winners of nine in a row, the Silvertips will look to push that streak to double digits Wednesday, December 12 (7:05 p.m. PT) when they head east to take on the Spokane Chiefs.

Still leading the B.C. Division, the Vancouver Giants moved up to the sixth spot in the Kia CHL Top 10 Rankings following a 2-1 overtime victory Saturday against the Victoria Royals in their only game of the week. 2019 NHL Draft prospect Bowen Byram sent the teddy bears flying for a second-straight season, scoring late in the third to tie up the game, with Jared Dmytriw eventually notching the game-winning goal in overtime. That improved the Giants record against their own division to 11-2-1-0, giving them a 12-point lead over the Kelowna Rockets for the division lead. The Giants will look to build upon that lead Friday, December 14 (7:30 p.m. PT) when they play host to the Everett Silvertips.
