Rage Stung by Killer Bees, 7-2

October 19, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Rocky Mountain Rage News Release

Hidalgo, Texas - The Rocky Mountain Rage suffered their second defeat in as many nights to begin the 2008-09 regular season, losing this evening, 7-2, to the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees at Dodge Arena.

The Killer Bees took a 1-0 lead during a wide-open, quick-moving first period. Each club had four power plays during the frame, but it was Rio Grande Valley's Rob Voltera that deflected in his team's first goal of the season on a four-on-three at 15:06.

Much like the five goals the Rage gave up in the second period during last night's 7-1 loss to the Laredo Bucks, the middle frame again proved disastrous for the club tonight. Four different Killer Bee goal scorers - Darryl Moore, Trevor Weisgerber, Aaron Lee, and Brian Bicek - found the back of the net to turn a one-goal game into a 5-0 contest through 40 minutes.

Rocky Mountain seemed to gain a measure of momentum mid-way through the third. John Snowden re-directed a Brent Cullaton shot for the team's first power play goal of the season at 10:05, and Daymen Rycroft lit the lamp at 11:55 to make it a 5-2 game. But after calling a time-out to settle their team down, the Killer Bees scored twice to snuff out any hope of an improbable Rage comeback. Moore tallied his second of the game at 13:20 and Jesse Bennefield scored in the game's last 40 seconds for the final margin.

The Rage now return for their home opener at Broomfield Event Center on Wednesday, Oct. 22, against the Colorado Eagles at 7:05 p.m.
