Pennsylvania Rebellion News Release

Washington, PA-The Akron Racers were the last to cross the finish line as outfielder Jill Barrett delivered the game winning hit in the top of the seventh to send the Racers home with a 5-3 victory over the Pennsylvania Rebellion Thursday at CONSOL Energy Park.

Pennsylvania pitcher Dallas Escobedo suffered the loss while Racers thrower Hannah Campbell got the win in relief for Akron. Campbell pitched 2 1/3 innings and allowed one run.

Akron jumped out to an early lead in the top of the third as a triple by Barrett, a RBI single by Charlotte Morgan and a sacrifice-fly by Jessica Garcia gave the Racers a 3-0 lead.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Rebellion began to inch closer as a RBI single by outfielder Brittney Lindley made it 3-1. With no outs and to lead off the bottom of the fifth, designated player Courtney Liddle blasted a solo homer to trim the deficit 3-2. With bases loaded in the sixth, infielder Jenn Salling capitalized on a one-and-two count by smacking an infield RBI single to tie the game at three a piece.

However, Barrett's go-ahead single in the top of the seventh gave Akron the 5-4 lead. The Racers tacked on an insurance run as Barrett reached home on an illegal pitch by Rebellion hurler Sarah Pauly.
