Rabil Named Warrior Offensive Player of the Year

August 23, 2011 - Major League Lacrosse (MLL) News Release

BOSTON, Mass. - Major League Lacrosse, the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league, announced Thursday that Boston Cannons midfielder Paul Rabil has been named as the 2011 Warrior MLL Offensive Player of the Year, according to MLL Commissioner David Gross. The award was based on the votes submitted by the head coaches and general managers of each of the League's six teams.

"We are thrilled to announce Paul Rabil as the 2011 Warrior MLL Offensive Player of the Year," said Dave Dixon, Warrior Chief Marketing Officer. "After yet another outstanding season with the Boston Cannons, Paul has not only succeeded in achieving personal goals on the field, he has become an icon of lacrosse in general and we're proud to align our brand with him for this year's honor."

It is the second time in the last three years that Rabil has earned the award; he was also named the 2009 Warrior Offensive Player of the Year.

"Well it's quite an honor obviously, it's a goal of mine that I set going into each season; to perform well individually and with that being able to contribute to the team's ultimate success of winning games, and the two really go hand-in-hand for any player," Rabil said.

"We've done some great things and it trickles down from the top; obviously with [Bill Daye] winning Coach of the Year...and it's allowed my job to be a lot easier."

In addition, it is the third straight year that a Boston Cannons player has been given the award as attackman Matt Poskay earned the honor last year.

The Cannons' leading scorer, Rabil scored 28 goals in 11 games, including four two-point goals. In addition, he took a team-high 127 shots.

A two-time selection as the MLL Offensive Player of the Week, Rabil scored five goals with two assists in a June 4 victory over the Chesapeake Bayhawks before tallying four goals with two assists against Rochester two weeks later.

In addition, the former Johns Hopkins University midfielder scored three goals, including a two-point marker, with three assists in a victory over Denver on July 3 at INVESCO Field at Mile High.

Rabil, who tallied at least two points in every game, also scored two or more goals in 9 of 11 games and had six multi-assist games.

In 42 career games, Rabil has scored 106 goals, including 21 two-point markers, with 46 assists.
