Edmonton Rush News Release

Edmonton, AB---The Edmonton Rush are proud today to announce homegrown standout Jimmy Quinlan as the Captain of the team for the 2012 National Lacrosse League season.

Quinlan is the last remaining original member from the club's inaugural 2006 season, and is the team's all-time leading scorer. More than his statistics, though, it is Quinlan's intensity, determination, and drive to succeed that are all the traits that made him an easy choice to become the team's recognized leader.

"Jimmy possesses all of the characteristics required to make a great captain," said Rush General Manager/Head Coach Derek Keenan, who presented Quinlan with his Captain's "˜C' jersey at Vimy Ridge Academy where Quinlan is a math teacher and lacrosse instructor.

"He is an intelligent player. He is vocal but also leads by example with a "˜Do whatever it takes to win' approach to every game. He is respected by his teammates, officials, and opponents. Jimmy has been a Rush player from Day 1 of this franchise and I know he will take on this responsibility with great pride and honor."

Quinlan grew up in neighboring Sherwood Park, Alberta, and was part of a huge groundswell of passion for lacrosse in that community during the '90s. Quinlan still carries that passion for the game today.

"Jimmy's commitment to the Rush and to the sport of lacrosse in the Edmonton community is unrivaled," noted Rush Team President Gord Sawyer.

"Jimmy is the quintessential heart-and-soul player. No one has excelled more as a player, and no one has been more popular with the fans and especially the young players than Jimmy. We were delighted that Jimmy re-signed with the Rush in the off-season, and immensely pleased that he has been named the Captain of the team for the 2012 season."

Quinlan played all of his minor lacrosse in the Greater Edmonton Area with the Sherwood Park Titans, Mill Woods Warriors, and Edmonton Miners. Upon reaching the junior ranks, Quinlan played for three teams in three different provinces as he continued to raise the level of his game.

After a stint of Junior "˜B' with the Edmonton Miners, Quinlan played in the British Columbia Junior "˜A' League with the New Westminster Salmonbellies, and then moved to the Ontario Junior "˜A' League for a season in Orangeville.

Quinlan reached the pro level in 2005 as he joined the NLL's Toronto Rock, and reached the league's pinnacle in his rookie season as he was part of the Rock club that won the Champion's Cup. A year later, he was traded to the Rush for the team's first season in the NLL. He became an immediate factor in the Rush's lineup for his intense play, and his debut season in Edmonton resulted in the first of three straight 20-goal seasons.

Quinlan's best offensive season came in 2007 when he set career-highs in goals (23), assists (32) and points (55). Quinlan has moved to more of a transition game in the past two seasons which has resulted in him collecting 167 loose balls. In 2011, Quinlan collected six goals and five assists for 11 points plus 74 loose balls and six forced turnovers.

Quinlan has played 103 regular-season games for Edmonton, missing only one game in the club's six-year history. The 30-year-old stands atop the all-time Rush scoring list with 101 goals and 112 assists for 213 points. Quinlan has twice represented the Rush in the NLL All-Star Game, appearing in back-to-back mid-season classics - the 2007 game in Portland, and then in 2008 on his home floor at Rexall Place in Edmonton.

Alongside his NLL Champion's Cup in 2005, Quinlan has earned three national championships in lacrosse - the 1998 First Nations Cup under-19 field championship; the 1999 Founder's Cup Junior "˜B' title with the Edmonton Miners; and the 2007 President's Cup Senior "˜B' crown with the Sherwood Park Outlaws.

The Rush opens their seventh NLL season on Jan. 20 when West-rival the Colorado Mammoth visit Rexall Place for a 7 p.m. faceoff. Tickets are available by calling The Rush office at (780) 732-RUSH.
